For marketing agencies and graphic artists, the art or skill of designing a logo to represent an organization can often pose a serious challenge but, if done right,it can also be quite rewarding. On March 9th Jannick Paul of St. Mary’s College got to learn that first hand after emerging victorious in the Caribbean Metals school logo design competition which took place in October last year. The competition was held in celebration of Caribbean Metals’ 25th anniversary and drew the attention and participation of some of the island’s top secondary schools.

According to the basic rules, each participating secondary school was given two weeks to come up with a logo that captured the true essence of the company in light of its 25th year anniversary. “We were very impressed with the submissions from the various schools,” says Sales and Marketing Manager of Caribbean Metals Ltd, Shenaz Narcisse. “This competition was truly a testament to the level of talent and potential we have among the youth today especially when it comes to the field of Art.”

At a special ceremony held on school grounds, St. Mary’s College was presented with a laptop as the overall winner of the logo design competition. Caribbean Metals would later add a bonus prize of a Galaxy Tab 4 for the young and talented Jannick Paul. His explanation for the logo read: “My logo portrays the people of St. Lucia being covered by Caribbean Metals for twenty-five years. This is shown by the three figures in the colors of the flag under a roof. Also the blue arch under the figures represents a union or bond among the people.”

Founder of Acid Creationz and Art teacher at the school, Ted Sandiford was also present at the ceremony and had this to sa : “We’re extremely proud of Jannick for the quality of work he was able to produce. I know he put in a lot of time after school and at home working on that logo and I am just really happy that it paid off.”
