The Cultural Development Foundation, on Thursday, August 1 released Saint Lucia’s official 2013 La Rose Festival month of events calendar. The calendar lists the various events being held in communities around the island in the month of August to celebrate the La Rose Flower Festival.

This month-long celebration of the music, colour and theatrics of the La Rose Festival kicked off on Thursday, August 1 with an Emancipation Day Activity under the theme “From Emancipation to La Rose”, where several La Rose Groups from around the island put on small performances to showcase the splendor of the Flower Festival. Other cultural performances ranging from story-telling, to traditional solo music formed part of the day’s activities.

Other events on this year’s calendar include Zonal Seances in the north and south of the island, as well as the Grande Fete La Rose, to be held in the town of Vieux-Fort. Locations, dates and times of all events are listed on the 2013 La Rose Flower Festival month of events calendar. Copies of the calendar can be obtained by visiting the CDF’s website.

This year’s events will celebrate the rich heritage of Saint Lucian people and their contributions to the shaping of the Saint Lucian cultural identity. As such, the Cultural Development Foundation and the La Rose Flower Society invites all the residents of Saint Lucia to “Wear a Rose for La Woz/ La Rose” and to participate in these wonderful events and explore the beauty, history, legacy and heritage of the La Rose Flower Festival. The feast day of the La Rose Flower Festival is celebrated every year on August 30th.
