With the current drought some people have been without water for over a week!
The STAR would like to know how you are affected and how you are coping. Are you doing anything different to conserve water? Post your comments here or email the editor: nicole.m@stluciastar.com

I live at Bocage and for the past week and a half, we have had no water. WASCO circulated an email which displayed the supply of water in an effort to ration it in the north of the island, but today Monday 17th February when the water supply should have been restored at 9am, we are yet to get a drop from the taps. Calling WASCO has proven futile. No one answers direct questions and I was simply past to an extension which was busy all day. This situation is getting worst as now I am hearing that the dam is dry. Not sure how true the rumours are. I think most people are conserving water as best as they could and have been living off of water from their tanks. Short of storing water in every available container, using as little water as possible to do everyday essential activities like bathing and washing dishes, there is not much we could possible do. It is irresponsible tthe way in which the water situation has been allowed to escalate to the point where we are left without for such long periods. Hopefully, the powers that be will learn from these mistakes and seek professional assistance in rectifying this major problem.
There is definitely a major problem where water distribution is concerned. I live in Gros Islet and I haven’t had water for weeks while people who live in areas like Reduit and La Clery haven’t missed a day of water. This doesn’t seem to be an island wide problem as I haven’t really been hearing anyone from Anse La Raye to the south of the island complaining as a result of not having water. I’m not really sure what the government can do at this point, but something has to be done and soon. I have a feeling things could get worse, people can’t wash their hands, diseases are soon going to be rampant. This is a disastrous situation!
Having no running water is a common occurrence in the south of the island for years. Nothing new, we just learn to deal with it.
Well I am from Anse-La-Raye and just because you dont hear anybody complaining doesnt mean that the problem doesnt exist there, its just that we have learned to deal with and understand why the water is being rationed. we simply try to do our best to conserve and use less water. if people are complaining now farless when the situation gets worse and we may have to import water, till then just have faith that thigns will get better and remember don’t waste…
The north of St. Lucia is so densely populated that it was only a matter of time before this scenario played out. It is ironic that Choiseul is never dry but so unoccupied. The JC dam will take awhile to refill and the rainy season starts near the end of May. This could be a major natural disaster, humans cannot survive without water.
I live in Plateau and we have not received water in two weeks. I have beeing calling WASCO and they keep repeating the same words every day to me that ” they will try to send some water today.”It is like a tape recorder that they have in the office or the supervisors and managers have properly train the staff to say the same thing over and over just to get rid of the customers.Rick please let WASCO know that Water is life and we at Plateau need life too. We need water.
Stephen:
WASCO would love to supply your water needs, but it takes rain to restock the St. Lucian reservoir, so your phone call is not like ordering pizza, the water has to come from some where, and as it stands I don’t see rain for 2000 miles in all directions. You might have to make a pit latrine., or as they do in India put some pigs under your house and make a hole in your floor.
If I could I would send you some… as it has rained every day this week.
I shall not complain when it does……
Maybe its time to have a national prayer vigil for water. Pray consistantly to the father above with a clear heart and water will come. God is love, but remember nobody gets to the Father except through the Son so repent and pray in Jesus name.
I hope this situation is rectified soon and lessons are learned all around about future water conservation. May God bless St Lucia and her citizens.
