Colombian woman gets six months for airport disturbance

A 30-year-old woman, Sandra Figueroa Fernandez, of the Republic of Colombia, appeared in court on Friday to answer a charge of unlawful disturbance.

After the charge was read to her she pleaded guilty and the facts were presented to the court. The magistrate explained to her the seriousness of her behaviour and issued a very stern warning then sentenced her to six months imprisonment.

The incident occurred about 11am on February 16 at the George FL Charles Airport, as Fernandez was preparing to board a LIAT flight, bound for Trinidad and Tobago. During the screening process, a black clock was noticed in her luggage and the authorities questioned her about it. She stated that the clock was in fact a bomb.

Operations at the airport were suspended until the arrival of Bomb Squad members who thoroughly examined the clock and discovered that Fernandez had provided false information. She was arrested and charged.

Six months is a joke.If it was in reverse we would waste away in a Colombian jail,as they would show us no mercy.

ok this is a serious offence but she made a verbal threat yet still a young ghetto man stands infront a camera an threatens the lives of police officers and get what . Nothing but the colombian gets 6 months ,the young man actually carried out his threat and finally got judgement death but all this could have been prevented.

LOL, LOL…. She should have been given 6 years for wasting the Police, airport passengers and the Court’s time. Had she been in Medellin and said that the clock was a bomb, she probably would have been shot. This takes me back to a point which I made on a different article. If the airport security looked serious and professional enough, she would have perhaps been too intimidated to crack jokes, during her screening. However, knowing that airport, the staff were probably laughing and joking, talking about whatever and not taking National Security serious enough. They probably wore shorts, long socks and berets whilst training…lol… Nevermind, she has enough time to think about her humour now…LOL

I think this judgement was harsh, considering the other major crimes for which trivial charges are applied. According to what was reported, i think the lady out of frustration after been let go from her job on a cruie line made that remark. Of course if a real bomb was found, that could have been different. But nobody in their right mind would claim to have a bomb in their possession.
After review, she should have been given a suspended sentence. If it were a St.Lucian the outcry would have been different.

  5. GLANVILLE SAYS: Compartotu opinion and respect other opinions, here in Colombia is given true justice if you commit a crime pay for it …..
It is very unfair that “the answer” to a “bad INTENCINONADA QUESTION AND EVIL” is punishable by not communicating with his family, move heaven and earth but hear me …….. Saludos Hernando Parra…If you’re a human being to help me to speak or have information on Sandra, God and I will be eternally grateful, note that I am not in your country, ties very easy to see, if you were to ask me the same thing I will aria I swear ….
