New Attorney General presents his action plan

Written By: Darnley Lebourne on Jul 26th, 2010

Chief legal Advisor to the Government of Saint Lucia, Attorney General and Minster of Justice, Senator Hon. Lorenzo Rudolph Francis has articulated his broad plan of action aimed at improving efficiency and enhancing the services provided by Attorney General’s Chambers and the Ministry of Justice. Senator Hon. Francis who has been on the job for one (1) week has signaled his intention to adopt an aggressive and dynamic approach to the operations of the Attorney General’s Chambers and the Ministry of Justice.

In outlining his broad plan of action, the Attorney General and Minister of Justice cited the following:
1. Restructure the Attorney General’s Chambers to function more effectively as a legal chamber, bearing in mind that the Attorney General is the Chief Legal Advisor to the Government.
2. Be more strategic and timely in responding to litigation. This would involve pursuing the option of settlement where it is determined to be in the best interest of the state.
3. Improve the public image of the Attorney General’s Chambers.
4. Restructuring of the Civil Status Registry.
5. Restore public confidence in the Civil Status Registry.
6. Protection of the Judiciary.
7. Facilitating efficiency in the court system.
8. Improving working conditions for Magistrates.
9. Ensure that the Attorney General’s Chambers provides the best legal advice to the Prime Minister and Cabinet of Ministers.
It is the intention of the new Attorney General and Minister of Justice to manage these two offices under his purview in a manner to ensure that there is access to relevant information and meaningful benefit from the services provided. The Attorney General and Minister of Justice will be engaged in an intensive period of orientation and strategic reflection in the coming weeks. It is the intention of the Attorney General and Minister of Justice to make himself available to the media for an inaugural press conference soon after the completion of the orientation process.

    • chalice grant says:

Joker if you took the time to read what the broad plan was, you would then realise that every area you mentioned has been catered for, but then again, you call yourself tea party. What should I expect?

  4. tenny says:

I wish Mr Francis well. I hope he does not put his intergity on the line.Go doddy you are a hard worker

  5. Darla says:

Doddy, I am certain that you have good intentions. Please don’t be all hardworking for the first few months and become complacent after.

By the way Big C, why would Doddy as AG be laughable? I would love to know!

  6. lorna Joseph says:

Reading the statement above tells me one thing. If all of the above is needed then, it means that there was, and there still a lot wrong with the system. Lets look at what stands before most statements. Improving, restoring, restructing etc.
The most telling aspect is that it was a press communique from Darnley Leborne. Yeah right. Sound like electioneering to me. No matter what I eh for King.

  7. Dotty says:

    Robert Lewis look out!

    • truth says:

So what will they do with Tessa Mangal, will they kick her out for francis?

    • Magic says:

Laughable. Will suffer the same fate as his brother Zep. You cannot put anything before morals and integrity, and that’s what Dr. Lewis is all about.

  8. Botox says:

The AG’s actions will determine whether this is a credible and just Government, remember the AG’s job is to be the chief advisor for the Prime Minister, that last guy was out to lunch, what was his name? I have difficulty remembering idiots.

  9. Makak Zelgosh says:

Government is a place filled with goodwill and good intentions, and if the road to hell is paved with them, then it’s a pretty good detour. Life is a dream for the wise, a game for the fool, a comedy for the rich, a tragedy for the poor - time and real action alone will tell whether the new AG is on his life’s journey or just taking an opportunistic detour. I wish him luck either way.

  10. MS LADEE says:

ALL THE WORLDS A STAGE AND WE ARE ALL ACTORS PLAYING OUR PART IN THIS LAND. OH WHAT A STAGE IT IS….SOON THE ACTORS WOULD LEAVE THE STAGE AND GUESS WHAT??? ANOTHER SET OF WELL PLACED ACTORS WILL TAKE THEIR BOWS TO AN UNSUSPECTING AUDIENCE….

WE IN ST.LUCIA ARE DEVOID OF MORALS, JABAL HERE JABAL THERE WHO CARES….ITS SUCH A MACHO STAGE AND A POWER TRIP….

I JUST REMEMBERED I AM ST LUCIAN AND I CARE….

  11. luciansista says:

Congratulations are in order my friend!!! Wish you all the best and know that I am rooting for yu!!!!

  12. lucianheat says:

Congrats to Mr. Francis a.k.a Mr. Doddy. Regardless of the comments before the guy is a worker and a deliverer. So man people talk the talk but never can walk the walk. I do have faith in doddy and know that there wont be any dodo making.

Further I hope he places alot of emphasis on the civil status registry as a first mission. That place needs to be revamped and modernised to accomodate its mandate. Go doddy go…and dont let complacancy and procratination set in at any time. A fate that we all fall victim to.

  13. Peter (expat) says:

Mr Francis is an honest and capable man and I wish him well.

In addition to the plan and objectives above I would like to suggest that Mr Francis also make ‘corruption’ his number one enemy and help provide the moral leadership that is needed.

This beautiful Island and its people deserve so much more from its government and its business leaders.

    Best regards

  14. AMS says:

Congratulations are in oder and so to Doddy I extend it. Stil am not quite sure whether to congratulate you Sir on your elevated stutus or caution you to proceed carefully in the execution of your duties as the Top Judicial Administrator of the Judicial System on behalf of the People of Iyanola.
Nevertheless the importance of your role going foward on a litany of issues vibrating across the lenght and bredth of our country demands your attention. There quite a few I can suggests but time and character space will not permit.
For starters provide a legal perspective on the ’simmering’ Sidewalk Cafe debacle dispite how it may unruffle the feathers of those purporting to represent the People but are in fact dabbling in the old political play book tactics of divide, conquor and rule…..
The current state of the Nation demands someone trustworthy and of sound ethical and moral convictions to represent THEM. Not percievably those masking with their crude tactics in manipulating the electorate.
Hopefully you have it in you to simply do your job and not the bidding of some puppet master (s)
