On Wednesday, St Lucians opened their hearts and dug deep into their pockets to assist by way of a Special Morgan George Appeal on Radio 100 Helen FM, a man who over the years gave his heart and soul to basketball without asking or receiving much in return.
Morgan George known to all as “Mr Magic,” has been ill for the past few months and is presently at Marion Home. He recently flew home from Cuba and will make a return trip in a few weeks time for further treatment, which comes with a very hefty price tag.
Say what you may, but
St Lucians always seem to rise to the occasion or rally for a cause when things matter most. In Magic’s case their heartfelt warmth and generosity was evident, during Wednesday’s appeal hosted by Radio 100 Personalities Andre Paul and Camillus Plummer. Their target during the 60 minute show which was extended by 30 minutes was $40,000.
From the time telephone lines opened, calls kept coming in and didn’t stop until the final buzzer. There were pledges from businesses, individuals, sports reporters (Francis Tobias and David Pascal) and various sports associations and teams including Courts Jets and Dennery Dolphins—basketball teams that Magic got off the ground. The final count was $43,001.00. The final dollar which got the total over $43,000 came courtesy of the last caller—Mr Magic.
While calling in his pledge, Mr Magic fought back the tears as he thanked St Lucians for their generosity, despite the tough economic times. He was especially grateful to “callers who I don’t even know”, said the Magic Man.
Despite reaching and surpassing the target of $40,000, St Lucians can still continue to support the Special Morgan George Appeal through a special account that has been set up at First National Bank. The account number is 740393.

That is so nice to hear from where i’m sitting right now. I raise my hats to my fellow St. Lucians. I know exactly what Magic is going through, because my family is in the US for the past two years trying to find a cure for our daughters auto immune illness, that she suffered more than four years ago. It doesn’t matter whats your status is in society, a sudden illness can take to from any stage to poverty. Ask me for i’m living it right now. So my fellow Lucians in cases like that give willingly, for tomorrow may just be your turn.
I bash Lucians on the head for being cold and brutal from time to time but I want to be the first to say how proud I am of us for having come through like that on behalf of Mr. Magic.

Bravo Lucians! I have kown Mr George from the time I was a little girl he has a good heart and is a very kind man, he really does deserve this my paryers go out to him. God Bless you Mr. George

thank god . coach morgan , i was just eleven years old when i became a member which made me the youngest member of ladies sonic that was 15 years ago , the game of basket ball teaches discpline and most of all it help release my anger it also tought self control . combine this with the time that he takes with the youth at vigie and in some schools hedeserve a medel or just the position of minister of sports. i’m praying for u .

Mr Magic, I am writing this on behalf of my kids. They were only about 7 and 10 when my kids joined the Mr Magic Academy for basketball. They enjoyed the game very much and the days when it was party time and time to receive their achievement certificates still brings a joy to their heart. Yes, the certificates are all framed and hanging on the walls in their bedroom. We pray that you get all the help you need in this time of your life and that our brothers and sisters of the land continue to assist as needed.
