Murder suspect drives off with cop’s car!

Written By: Kayra Williams on Jun 29th, 2009

If the burglar bars on the windows of the central police station were not enough proof of our police department’s inability to contain crime, yesterday the nation received more proof when a reportedly handcuffed prisoner drove off in a police vehicle that was supposed to deposit him at the district court.
From the account of a source close to the police force, the man was able to make off with the police vehicle at about quarter to one in the afternoon when he was left unattended on Peynier Street by a special police constable who was responsible for guarding
him and who had apparently left the key in the ignition. Reports indicate that
the passenger had been handcuffed at the time but that is being investigated as well as the circumstances of the incident.
The police vehicle had been attached to the Vieux Fort Criminal Investigation Unit and the officer, stationed at the Vieux Fort Police Station. The police vehicle was one of those responsible for escorting prisoners to court in Castries.
Roughly 45 minutes after the vehicle was stolen by a man being investigated for a number of offences including possession of a firearm and a recent murder, the police vehicle was recovered at Monier.
The police constable involved in the incident has, according to police sources, been placed on suspension pending investigation. At press time the man was still at large while police were “on the ground conducting a search.”

    NOBODY is that stupid!

  2. JS says:

Any police officer who fails to follow departmental procedures should be punished by the top brass of the police force. There must be no cover - up. That will help in improving the image of the force.

I can’t imagine how anyone with half a brain could be that stupid!

  3. ASHLEY says:

    UNBELIEVABLE!

  4. Simon says:

Could this cop have been paid off to let the guy go? who knows cuz I don’t think someone can be that reckless but then again…

  5. Jazzi says:

Honestly, is anyone surprised by the monumental ineptitude displayed by some of those muppets passing as cops? These jokers are making a mockery of the other decent and hard-working cops. Not long a ago, a suspect in a Martinique murder case escaped right under their noses from a cell at the La Caye police station. Now there is this comical incident. Next, look out full details of future confidential police operations being posted on Twitter, Blogger, Worpress and other popular online blogging services. Maybe I am probably giving those numbskulls way to much credit, a more likely medium would be Juk Bois or similar.

    This is utterly scandalous.

i agree with JS….there are procedures, no variations, this special constable should be dismissed then charged .. yeah unbelievable i say thyere i smore to this

  7. whats new …most of our cops treat murder like its a joke. remember paul mathurin, yahmaha and others. murder is murder,no matter who did it or who is killed.we treat 2 splif criminals like animals, and kilos and murders like its nothing. if its not drug, especially coke, our cops are not motivated,i wonder why…. unless we all come together and fix those problems, every week we will be burying our youth…..respect life or you may be next……

  8. David Vicar Vitalis says:

Simple: hand him his pink slip and no pension, i think its time the top brass start taking bold steps. i mean how stupid are you? If you were guarding the dude how far away were you then? 1mile? no how about at Dr. Freezers buying a freaking egg in ambush! you didnt hear the engine start? and mind you that was on Peynier st. how busy is that in the afternoon?. That leaves you with the charges (1) neglecting your duties, (2) left him in a car mid day, how hot was that, failure on your duty of care no matter what he is charged with, (3) leaving Crown property unsecured. Get him off the force, he shouldnt even be a security guard!!! Its idiots like that that allow criminals to walk free.

    Oh yes he just did!!!

  9. BLAME says:

instead they hire real policemen in the force, train them properly, and pay them a policeman salary, they hire S.P.C meaning stupid police constable. These men do police work, they are under trained, wear a different uniform, they are under paid, they cannot be promoted, they do not have a pension, and they give them all kinds of responsibilities to escort the most dangerous criminals alone, which is supposed to be don by more than one very well trained policeman. So can we blame an S.P.C if a criminal escape from him?

  10. BLAME says:

Crime is serious business, only in St lucia they take crime and criminals lightly. A criminal should not be riding in a car like a tourist next to the driver in the first place, he should be locked in special car with a cage. An SPC should never be escorting a murderer. What is an SPC in the first place? I know a police man should go to the training centre and pass the course them become a policeman, i know for a fact that most policemen in St Lucia never pass the police training course but their jobs are secured anyway. A police force should never have any SPC. Everybody should be well trained officer. They used and abuse these untrained men to do police work, for less pay and less benefits. When the slack policemen report sick , these poor SPC have to do their work for them. So these people who do not know, is calling for the head of the poor SPC, should think twice, because the small, poor at the bottom is always being punished for the slackness the top.

  11. Distress!!! says:

I have always been embarrassed and ashamed of the The St. Lucia Police Force. Just when I’m thinking that the police will gainfully be redeemed, this act of unprofessionalism, to say the least, just takes the trophy. Can the police ever be more dumb than this??? St. Lucian police can never be taken seriously, especially after this incident. The jaw-dropping stupidity of their actions is almost laughable. It’s bad enough they can’t write a standardized report, their oratory skills is a disgrace…… and now this???? It never ceases to amaze me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  12. Nothing new to St.Lucia`s Police Things happen to them nowhere in the world happens!! Why don`t we employ a combined police force one from ever Island, or part of this world to make up fpr stopping crime favoritism, family, friend, and so on. this could the last trumpet on that case it could work!!!!
