Amy to jump St Lucia Carnival?

Written By: Kayra Williams on Jul 2nd, 2009

Amy Winehouse is said to be interested in jumping in the upcomign St Lucia Carnival from July 20 and 21.

Amy Winehouse is said to be interested in jumping in the upcoming St Lucia Carnival from July 20 and 21.

Band offers Amy Winehouse free costume

Is there anything such as “too outrageous” when it comes to antics on our carnival route? And what type of behaviour would carnival bandleaders fear from the not so polished British pop star Amy Winehouse who has, according to sources close to her, expressed a desire to hit the carnival road for St Lucia carnival? Word is that Winehouse has already made contact with a local carnival band, against the wishes of her father.
Top carnival bands on the island like Red Unlimited and Just 4 Fun have indicated that there is room for the British star in their bands-—once Winehouse is willing to comply with the rules and regulations of their bands.
Both bands are expected to be over 1000 revelers strong this year and Red Unlimited’s band leader Thaddeus Antoine said he was willing to offer a free costume to the British celebrity to be part of his band while Andy Delmar, band leader for Just 4 Fun told the STAR that once in Just 4 Fun, Winehouse would receive special treatment, but would “still have to pay for her costume!”
“I think carnival is open to everyone, we encourage foreigners to jump,” said Delmar. “There’s space in our band, we just launched another VIP section last week, Gucci.
Comments from Red’s band leader were similar.
“We don’t discriminate, there is room for Amy, and there is room for all. Amy would be added publicity for the band. We don’t take into account drinking or drug use when letting people into band, you just have to abide by the rules on the road.
Amy is very welcome, in fact we have a free costume for her, she just has to say when!”
It may not just be abiding by regulation that has to be considered when it comes to Winehouse who has been hospitalized at least four times according to reports, because of “dehydration” and “fatigue” while on an “extended vacation” in St Lucia. There is no way to tell whether the frail looking Winehouse, would be able to cover the entire extended carnival route.
It does seem, however, that Winehouse is attempting to connect with local events as a couple weeks ago, she put her hand into the fire for a local restaurant beach shack owner whose business was being threatened out of existence by big time developers in the Cas en Bas area. This week, sources from the hotel in the north of the island where Winehouse has been staying have reported that Winehouse has been on a mission to save stray dogs she finds on the beach. Hotel staff have allegedly been in a battle with Winehouse trying to stop her from bringing stray dogs into the hotel telling her that, “she can’t save all the dogs in St Lucia.”
If Amy does decide to join the carnival fun there’s good chance that she will then truly embrace the spirit of St Lucia.

I still cannot figure out why St. Lucians dispise Amy Winehouse so much. Jeff Fedee and everyone taking swipes at her. I would say that if anyone is without sin let him/her cast the first stone, but that isn’t working. From reading all the news and press releases on Amy… ready for this… she’s an asset to St. Lucia!
When I read that British Airways is adding two more flights to St. Lucia this summer I am of the opinion that Amy has to something to do with that. Why? Because of the publicity that she generates people are getting to know about St. Luciia and want to come see what’s there in St. Lucia that Amy loves.
As far as I figure there no angels or saint in St. Lucia… so let her be!

    I love St Lucia, I have been visiting for a month a year since I was 6 - I am now 25.
I used to like Amy winehouse, sadly I do not any more! All I hear about is the bad she is causing on the island… drinking benders, taking in stray dogs, destroying her hotel room,Hospitalised 4-5times? and of course who could forget that mess at the Jazz festival! - if she does carnival will that happen again? Ozzy osbournes daughter was put off coming to St Lucia because of Amy. I feel sorry for the staff and guests at Cotton bay, and the people who paid for Jazz tickets.
I know a year or two ago she did help an injured tourist on the beach and the tourist minister sent her flowers, that was nice - but what good has she done since?
When I visit St Lucia I am only allowed to stay for 42 days.Who is stamping her passport so she can stay longer?
Yes they say she is working on another album, but what happens when she comes up with nothing because she is too wasted all the time? The company have already rejected one album she did because it was too ‘regge’?
As for her residce application I would like the people & government to take into account the above points and have a good think about what happens when she does become even more of a mess.
It is sad beacuse she is a drug addict and an alcoholic - (her parents even say so) But what message is this sending to the young people of St Lucia? is it also sending the message to tourists that they can come for a drug fueled holiday?
St Lucia - simply beautiful - lets hope it stays that way.

I hope some one reads or prints this.

    They don’t agree with Zapon!!!
Amy has gone to St. Lucy for the rehab.
it is true that the pressures in London furnished by the divorce by her husband and by the oppresione of the paparazzos have reduced very bad Amy.
But it is true also that if a person wants to detoxify herself, she doesn’t go to the Caribbean.
I don’t believe but a Caribbean island can help Amy!!!
if it were only a problem of taxes?
I believe that Amy owes a lot of pounds to Queen Elizabeth and there is some very precise rules for the payment of the taxes in England.
If I don’t mistake the law it foresees that spent 183 days out of the ground English, Amy it doesn’t have to pay taxes.
I hope that from now on Amy makes to speak of if only for her voice, not for these advertising gimmicks!
the care to recover there is, it is in its head, only in its head
    Sincerely, David

  19. Sarge says:

Let the girl do her thing. Let her love St Lucia and its people if it makes her confortable and at peace with herself. Don´t forget she is still human.

  20. I agree with Zapon, Amy has a great deal to do with St. Lucia gettimg much needed publicity…The mainstream media and internet had stories featuring Miss Winehouse’s experiences in St Lucia and they all elaborated on the sun drenched island paradise’s beauty.
I think Jeff Fedee should take a hike along Hospital Road and when he gets to the Turning Point area go get his head examined.
The Person with the idear of having her be part of a carnival band is brilliant…
St Lucia appreciate a good thing….Amy is a good person who is tryng hard to fight her demons like we all do. “Simply Beautiful” is an important weapon in this battle…when you lose her you will then realize how important she was to your economy.

  21. Sarge says:

We should ask ourselves why Amy has chosen St Lucia as a retreat from all the problems and negative issues surrounding her life. I think she feels at home, and finds something positive in St Lucia she can hung and cling to.

I think we should try to assist and support her on her way to recovery, instead of letting her bite the dust. There are many other stars in the same condition as she is in, and we still love, accept, and respect them.

Please give her a little more respect and acceptance, because that may just help her in many ways to be the Amy she once was. I do not know Amy, I have never seen her in person, nor have I been to one of her concerts…but I think she is a great artist and person if given the chance to prove herself.

God bless and guide her on the road to recovery.

man with all the nonsense about amy this and amy that ……………………….whilst we at it why not blame amy for the senseless killings and everything else that is wrong on the island..WTF……. i have read all this nonsense about Amy is no good for the islands image and all that …. MY QUESTION TO MR.FEDEE do you even know what the image of St’ Lucia is right now? instead of using your 10 mins of fame Mr. Fedee to slander a troubled musician use it to speak to the youth who have no vision to do better with themselves. just so you know Mr. Fedee i live in the US and you sure made headlines ……………….every american blogger ran your story on amy and how she is corrupting the island …WAY TO GO i guess leading by example is not a theory of yours…………………….. if you going to do anything for the good of St.Lucia Mr. Fedee start by doing something positive instead of useless print to feed the american media………..
To my fellow St. Lucians have a great and safe festive season. GOD BLESS ST LUCIA

  23. helen says:

WHAT’S THE BIG DEAL IF SHE JOINS OR NOT. CARNIVAL HAS BEEN THERE WITH OR WITHOUT HER!!!

  24. truelucian says:

Mr. Fedee instead of slandering a troubled musician and using your ten minutes of fame to feed the american and foreign media..( yes in case you did not know MR.FEDEE every blogger in the united states carried your idiotic story about Winehouse being such a cancer for the island) pull your skirt down Fedee and grow a pair. use the time that you obviously have on your hands and join the true lucians who are trying to restore an island. Obviously you sit in your office or by the beach with a cigarette and compose your “great stories” for the press like a true Spielberg.
Contrary to your rant on Winehouse….i have had people actually ask me about St.Lucia and since i am a true to my island i tell them about the Jazz festival and the beaches and the hospitality on the island………….and just so you know Mr. Fedee Winehouse has not been the only troubled star to visit the island (whitney Houston &Bobby Brown) probably your writing skills were not up to par so you could not have wrote a story then…………………………..since you have now reached international fame in the world of blogging maybe you should start a positive blogg something that can bring Lucia out for its’ beauty not for a troubled Singer who is PAYING TO STAY ON THE ISLAND…………………….. to my fellow lucians have a sfae and great festive season MAY GOD BLESS

  25. Davina says:

Amy Winehouse is a very troubled young lady, she is a danger to herself & sometimes to others, the U.K Mental Health Act states these factors as criteria to ’section a person’ [commit to a Mental Institution] for her own safety & as bourne out by her past Police Record which includes a Caution for Common Assault, the safety of others. It is sad that such a talented Woman has become a huge liability however even her Parents have had to step back from her after trying very hard to help her overcome her drug & alcohol addiction. This disease can destroy many lives & not until Amy herself wants to seek help will her downward spiral end. I pray that she stays safe on this beautiful island & I expect that everyone who has come into contact with her during her time here fear for her safety too. The Management at Cotton Bay have banned her from their pool but the Ocean is just a step away.

  26. Outsider says:

amy cant even walk..much less ‘jump’…

  27. Anonymous says:

what is Amy Winehouse doing in St Lucia ? She has spent more than 42 days already. What are our immigration officer doing and not checking on her status on the inland? If it was somebody else they had come and ckeck on them.

This Amy should be back in her country already, these people encouraging this girl i hope that their insurance is big. All she want to do is put St lucian in trouble.

Please sent this girl back home.

    thank you

  28. EA says:

My gosh….why do we always look for negative remarks to make. What if Amy goes back to the UK and commits suicide? Why can’t we just take this whole Amy Winehouse thing and make it out to be a creative tourist attraction thing for St. Lucia? Hasn’t anyone ever heard about the term, ‘Medical Tourism”? At least someone could have a decent thought to offer help to the trouble lady and use this as punch line for St. Lucia in these harsh economic times. Bring in assistance for her medically and offer help and let her pay for all the expences. Why don’t we look for the ‘loop holes’ in this situation and take advantage of it while our country is suffering financially. Stop being and idiotic egocentric commentator and think of what you can do for your own country to attract more celebrity icons looking for a break from their hard life. Trust me, some of these celebrites really need help but with all of the people coming down on them they really can’t find the help they need becasue we do not show any empathy. Do you think Michael Jackson would’ve died like he did if the media wasn’t hard on him? Somtime I wonder if we really have any more humanity in our nature…..I wonder what we have become here in St Lucia. Jeff Fedee,…I am disappointed in you. I am a young St. Lucian and think that our approach to various hapenings in St. Lucia is rather poor, including the recent crime rate. If we just offer our help/ideas on how to make this country better rather than blame people and make nasty and idiotic comments then our country will be a better country. What good is the blaming people gonna do? Someone with a belief is much stronger than 99 persons with interests alone.

stay dry in july and give the money to charity.Thats what we do here in Australia.Amy should take the challange. She will be suprised how great she feels.

  30. Well Well we all know bad news sells, who cares about good news, it`s not funny the tabloids are making money, with Amy! look at Jako he would have survived in St.Lucia, with our national bird ! Leave de girl man.

  31. tom says:

Dont drink amy.you willmake a prat of yourself.i love you.

  32. disheartened lucian says:

Helen I agree with you 100%. For those of you who are making a claim for Amy why don’t you include Ashanti. Make a claim for him too. He is our very own. Charity begins at home! Ashanti has got good talent too. He has represented St. Lucian regionally and did not let us down. Can you imagine it had to take Amy Wino to bring out St. Lucian’s all embracing and helpful instincts.

  33. Simon says:

The key word here is moderation, too much of anything is no good and this applies to all of us. Amy can have a few drinks as long as she understands when to stop, in the meantime go shake that thang gurl.

  34. T. Talundzic says:

lEAVE THE WOMAN ALONE THE WORLD WOULD BE A MUCH BETTER PLACE IF EVERYONE MIND THEIR OWN BUSINESS.

  35. Radaganza says:

As I said before..Why the special treatment..Just because of money.?.
How long could you go on doing these things, with out getting arrested
Why does Amy NOT have to abide by the LAW OF THE LAND…WE DO…

Put her skinney butt in re hab , or for send her home…
    enough is enough…

  36. Mark Deo says:

Wow I can’t imagine why some of the people here talk about the talented singer like a piece of meat. Christ I go through depression too and it is not something to make fun about or criticize. Instead of putting your energies about what Amy Winehouse has done, why don’t you people try to motivate her and support her on her rehab. You don’t know what led her to drugs and alcohol. So many Saint Lucians are in the same boat. They drink, smoke, take crack and even commit suicide. Mr. Fedee I have lost all respect for you and I think that you are a sleeze bag for attacking such a talented successful singer. You can’t be half the woman that she has turned out to be today and for those Brits and Americans and even everyone that are brainwashed into material and plastic culture. Look at yourselves first before you can just rip open someone’s life and try to be so negative on it. Think of how she feels. I know how she feels. The more negative comments I get, the more ranting and judging the more I will drink or use drugs. I’m sure she’s the same way with millions of people like this in the world. All of you have dark secrets and so what if hers is to drink and take drugs. You don’t look down on her for that. What you should do is try to support her in trying to stop her from taking drugs and drinking. Maybe I’m wrong but none of you negative people deserve to even speak about her. All of you should go on with your perfect lives and leave people Like Amy Winehouse and me alone to perish in our rotten and depressing lives. As for Carnival, all of you who consider yourselves band leaders want to show you all have power and can make Amy pay for costume or you want to show that Amy can party with you all. All I have to say is shame on all of you for using people like this. People that have feelings and a life. I hope that you all have to learn a lesson in life before you all die. People like Amy Winehouse and me will be in my prayers.

    Happy…

  37. Janet Collinson says:

We don’t hear much about Amy’s antics in St Lucia around the UK newspapers much now, as you guys must have all her ‘news’. Whatever anyone thinks or says about her, she is an extremely talented singer and performer, just such a shame about her self destructive nature. She had DEFINITELY put St Lucia on the map. Every holiday advert and almost everywhere you look here in the UK, is about St Lucia and how beautiful it is and how fantastic it is to visit. Hope you guys can cope with the increase in visitors from the UK!!!

  38. gem says:

amy come take a wine for the Carnival - come look funny- funny lol lol I will be right by her side
