There is now a new Vendors Complex on Jeremie Street in Castries. The yellow and green painted, neatly designed edifice, is the latest infrastructural addition to the city.
It was officially opened during a brief ceremony organized by the Castries City Council (CCC) on Friday. Among those in attendance were Minister for Local Government, Urban Renewal and Physical Development and Parliamentary Representative for Castries Central, Richard Frederick; Minister for Home Affairs and National Security, Guy Mayers, Minister for Foreign Affairs, Rufus Bousquet, Chairman of the CCC, Irvin John, Town Clerk, Lambert Nelson and Councilors of the CCC.
During his address, Frederick announced that the CCC has adopted a business approach in its operation. He said the CCC should be in a position to sustain itself, given its millions of dollars worth of fixed assets.
“Time and time again it finds itself in a situation where its cash on hand is insufficient to meet its financial obligations to its workers. When this happens, the council has to go on a begging spree, literally pleading to central government to assist in its responsibility to discharge its obligations to its employees,” Frederick said. “In my view, CCC should never find itself in such a position, because it has the assets.”
CCC Chairman Irvin John reflected on the challenges confronted in managing the city. He mentioned the problems of stray dogs, littering, vagrancy, indiscriminate vending around the city, the upsurge in criminal activity, that can hinder the development of a “touristic oriented” city. He encouraged the people to take care of the facility.

The level of product will never match the infrastructure, so it will always appear dingy.
Small steps to improve the City
It’s past time to engage in a complete city renewal, remodeling and structural development of the city of Castries and the capital of St.Lucia. In light of these small steps to date, we must boldly engage council to consolidate, embrace new thinking, ideas and fresh faces.
Further, we should engage in a program of Request for Proposal process, that can take advantage of the creativity and expertise of individuals, professionals and corporations in a unique and creative way to deliver a mixed use revitalization of modern amenities: similarly we need to develop a volunteer program, of committed citizenry geared towards economic development and prosperity, fitting of a modern city and capital of St.Lucia.
The Castries City Council need to recognize that were in a new era and must welcome new leadership, to govern the council and keep it fresh, with new ideas, functionality, and economic viability.

Any man that calls himself a “beast” he not worth of my time.
they should take out them old CDCs that breed crime, molestation, and an overall bad odour. They should not bother about who wants to sue. The centre of the City should not be the place where talk show hosts mothers enjoy cheap housing. The bajans would never allow such a mess in their proud bridgetown. Yet the talk show host have decided that until their mother dies, the country should hold back on progress and not condemn a delapidated living space. I say DOWN with the CDC. Staight up!!!!
What about Soufriere, Choiseul, Laborie, Vieux Fort and all other places of life? The North has enough already, why are you so stupid and greedy? Why do you show your lack of care or interest for the rest of the island? This dumb planning as usual, you want vending market but you import all your products for sale, I don’t get it, what ’s the deal here? You are doomed to failure because you are retarded and blind.
