St Lucia’s representative for a Gay Talent event in New York is calling on St Lucians to wake up and smell the coffee—homosexuals are here to stay!
Ever since we featured the first article two weeks ago about a gay Caribbean/USA pageant to be held in Brooklyn next month, our online commentators have taken to the story like moths to a flame or should we say like Ellen at the sight of a gay parade. But that having been said, even some the self righteous among us and those who conveniently quote scripture seem more curious about who the Saint Lucian participant is, while others breathe their verbal brimstone and fire. But as they say in showbiz gay or straight, the show must go and this one apparently is moving ahead, drawing lots of interest from the gay community in New York and the wider tri-state area.
On Saturday 19th September, as previously reported, the 2009 Gay Caribbean/USA Pageant will be staged in Brooklyn New York and will feature five male contestants representing Jamaica, St Lucia, Barbados, Martinique and Guyana. They will all appear in full female attire during every appearance and will take part in the opening number, talent, swimwear and evening wear.
Saint Lucia’s representative is Frantica Boujoules and the Star spoke with him this week from his home in Brooklyn.
As Frantica (he has changed his name) tells it, he was about seven or eight when he started accepting that he was “different.”
“It was sort of confusing at first but then my family saw that I was who I was and accepted me. I mean I was the fashionable one, always putting on a show and they would just sit around and be entertained, then I started accepting myself,” he tells us. “My close friends as well accepted me although the criticisms and negative comments when I would be passing through the neighbourhood hurt sometimes,” he revealed.
Frantica describes himself as a down to earth individual born and raised at Arundel Hill, Marchand. The six footer worked in the hospitality industry here for a number of years particularly at Cunard Hotel la Toc and the Green Parrot.
“I loved the hospitality industry and I also took part in the Miss SLHTA pageant as a performer and other fashion shows,” he says. But his first public effort at truly coming out was in 1992 when he participated in the Miss Queen Bee pageant before moving to the United States in 1996. “My main reason for moving, was because I loved travelling, love being adventurous but also because in Saint Lucia I sometimes had to suppress who I was and did not always feel free,” he admits.
Presently Frantica says he works in the restaurant business and as a housekeeper with an upscale institution in New York where his life is pretty normal.
“On a daily basis you can find me in jeans and t-shirt, although I love the feel and look of women’s attire,” he says laughing, although he admits he does not cross dress. But on the night of the show he says he will get a chance to showcase his sense for women’s fashion. “I am looking forward to the night and persons can expect to see me doing a mixture of things for my talent which I want to keep a secret for now,” he says.
We then spoke with Frantica about being gay and how some persons viewed it. “Well you know what, some persons say that it is a lifestyle but for me I know for a fact that this is how I was born, this is how God made me,” he says. “I mean I am a God-fearing person and a spiritual person and I pray every day I talk to God and I ask him for enlightenment and guidance and I know he loves me because I am one of his creations because before anything else I am a human being.”
Frantica also told us that he was in Saint Lucia in July for carnival and although he was impressed with the infrastructural development on island, he was concerned about the rise in crime. He also thinks that people are somewhat less abusive towards gays here but he is still concerned about the acceptance and education about gays and gay issues in Saint Lucia.
“I would like Saint Lucians to stop being so close-minded and be more tolerant and understanding towards those whom they consider different,” he says.
Frantica enjoys singing, performs at various functions in New York and enjoys making people happy and wants to do just that on the night of the show.
The show is being coordinated by the Fabulous Lucians an organization headed by Hemish Gervis
who told the Star the show is being held at a venue which doubles up for the Unity Fellowship Church which is open to gay membership. Hemish is a para legal who says he is using the event as a springboard for his own promotion and production company and expects it to be a success. “We have been getting very positive
feedback and the negatives are nothing more than we expected,” he says. The event is being held at Unity Hall, 2578 Atlantic Avenue, between Georgia Avenue and Alabama Avenue from 7pm on September 19,
2009, with full security enforced.

We were all created as free moral agents, able to choose good or bad, right or wrong God created us that way. All i have to say is this; no matter who you are gay or stright, man, woman or unsure, when the time comes we all have to give an accounting to God for our actions. Gay sex is unnatural sex just as fornication is unnatural bot hold the same punishment. A man having sexual relations with another man thats wrong just as a man who is having sex with a woman he is not married to. All of us as long as we stay in our sinful course, we all face the same punishment from God. God, the almighty whether you believe in him or not, he exist and he is being patient with all of us; gay, straight and Bi, giving us time to turn from our evil course, bring our lives up to his standards. machoism, homosexualism, lesbianism and bisexualism and all life styles he hates. The only approved life style is one man getting married to one woman and the two becoming one. Before i close i make this plea, let us all turn aside from our evil ways and come to God. I think it’s time that we all accept everyone for who they are. Quit judging one another… it isn’t our job to do so… leave this to the almighty. Some people act as though they follow every single commandment in the bible, when in truth and reality, this isn’t the case. As long as somebody lives with a pure heart, what they do in the privacy of their own house is their business. Who are any of us to judge? Have we all lived the life of purity or have we all, at some time or another given in to sin? Answer yourself honestly! Once again it is with interest I read these comments to analyse the objectiveness and rational of individual’s expressing their opinions and mind is not more valued than others.
However, I question the logic that individuals use to justify the dislike to gays. Example God is use to justify once anger, vile remarks etc; I ask the Bible teaches God made every human in his own image and predestinate to acheive his will in the life of every human being. Then what gives you and I the right to judge any other human because they are different to us or as the argument goes chose to live a life style that is gay?
The bible says sin is sin and is equal in the eyes of the almighty - then why do we as a so call christain nation ignore, adultery, fornication women and child abusers?

Bravo wake up St. Lucian gay life has been around from creation accept and move on. Be confident of your sexuality if you are straight and stop the nonsense that you do not want another man or woman to make a pass at you - do not flatter yourselves but enjoy life and let God be the judge.

Live and let live. The vast number of people who parade around spitting out scripture passages and passing judgement on people are themselves hiding their own dirty laundry. Being critical of another is the only way they can justify they own public image yet how they sleep at night is beyond me.

No one in their right mind would wish this life on another person. Some people think it’s a big party but the internal conflict that one faces on a DAILY basis is sometimes unbarable. The rate of suicide among gays (especially in the Caibbean) because of self hatered is on the rise but that’s not something which is not reported, only ignored.
The Bible contains six admonishments to homosexuals and 362 to heterosexuals. This doesn’t mean that God doesn’t love heterosexuals, it’s just that they need more supervision.

My St. Lucian people, I don’t know what happened to them over the years. Maybe, it is the competion between one another , who has the biggest refrigerator in their homes, cars, clothe etc… has become, even more small minded, (I DON’T THINK THAT IT IS THE RIGHT WORD) but, I will use it anyway. They are still living in the SIXTIES, although they have cable TV, internet etc. will never accept this show in St. Lucia. Not even if this show would make St. Lucia rich!!!

I left in 2000 to come to Canada & have done countless work for organizations & charity etc. We represent St.Lucia in Ottawa Ontario Canada, and would love to welcome you with open arms & lots of love. As far as the negative creatures & demons bother you, I hope in your heart that you grow stronger & continue doing your job. You might not know it but your life story is possitive enforcement for the next generation who will follow in yours & our footsteps or high heels / leather boots.
