The Capri Sun 10th Annual National Time Swimming Trials concluded over the past weekend at the Rodney Heights Aquatic Center. St Lucia’s top locally based swimmers battled to make the National Team for the OECS Championships in Grenada November 6-8.

The Capri Sun Trials, hosted by the Sea Jays Swim Club, was hugely successful. Two senior Capri Sun representatives, Stephen Chen from Jamaica and Sancha Raggie-James from local agents Consolidated Foods were on hand to witness the meet and hand out medals.

Highlight of the meet was the setting of two age group records by Julien Brice and the RHAC Sharks reasserting their local dominance by overwhelming the other clubs.

Swimming in the age group 15-17 years, Brice returned to full training after concluding his very successful CXC exams. He broke the 50M and 100M SC freestyle records with times of 24.24 and 53.92 seconds respectively.

The combined team scores had RHAC Sharks (SHARKS) way ahead with 1493 points, followed by the omnipresent Sea Jays Swim Club (SJ’S) with 871 points. Third place went to the well supported and popular Southern Flying Fish (SFF) with 786.5 points, followed by the improving Racers (RACERS) Swim Club with 571.5 points and finally Sea Hawks Masters with 136 points.

From the Capri Sun Trials, 34 swimmers will be selected to represent St Lucia at the OECS Championships in Grenada. St Vincent, Dominica, and Antigua are also expected to attend. As with past years, invitations have been sent to Martinique to field a team for the event.
