OECS Sports Director, Denis James, was all smiles after receiving this sponsorship cheque from General Manager of Jeffery and Jeffrey Insurance Company Limited, Arletta Bailey.
Once again folks its cool running’s courtesy of Jeffery and Jeffery Insurance Company Limited, who dished out EC$25,000 on Monday towards the 2009 OECS Half Marathon. The event takes place November 15 in Grenada.
The firm which is associated with Guardian General Insurance Company Limited, (GGICL) has had a long association with road running in the OECS. Through Nemwil they have sponsored the half marathon for over 17 years.
At Monday’s presentation at Jeffery and Jeffrey located on Micoud Street, General Manager Arletta Bailey, pointed out that (GGICL) has always been a very strong supporter of regional events. It is our privilege to do this once again.”Receiving the cheque on behalf of the OECS Sports Desk was OECS Sports Director, Denis James. On behalf of the OECS and sports persons in the region, he thanked Bailey for the company’s generous and consistent contribution throughout the years towards youth development.”
He went on to say: “We at the OECS don’t see it as sponsorship but see it as development in the people of the region. Through these activities like the Nemwil OECS Half Marathon, some of our athletes have got the opportunity to represent their country at the highest level.”
He mentioned St Lucia’s Zepherinus Joseph and Pamenos Ballantyne of St Vincent and the Grenadines, who both competed in the marathon at the Summer Olympic Games. There is a rivalry between both men which is expected to escalate on November 15 in Grenada.
