Media outplayed itself!

Written By: Star Reporter on Oct 31st, 2008

The Media Houses Combined hampered by the involvement of certain elements in the management, found themselves giving CO Williams a 1-nil victory at the Corinth Playing Field on Tuesday afternoon in a Commercial League clash.

Having failed to put away the many scoring opportunities, CO Williams found a gaping defence minutes from the first interval. A pass just outside the six yard box found its target, who having shaken off the struggling Media Workers defender, calmly side-booted ball into the back of the nets.

Two changes were effected by the Media Workers team to correct the gaping holes left in their defence by an overzealous central defender, and a midfield that was not existent, did not result in the equaliser. Although the CO Williams goalkeeper was more in the mode of  a pre-schooler taking catching practice, the Media Workers strikers failed to do what was requested of them, and came away with an embarrassing 1-nil defeat, in a game they should have won by a handsome margin.

Cable and Wireless took out high premiums, handing the Insurance All-Stars a 3-nil football lesson at the Monchy Playing Field. Over at the Vigie Playing Field, in a high stakes clash between Caribbean Metals and M&C, that game ended prematurely when a truck driver was having trouble and had gotten stuck in the soft soil, dumped a load of aggregate on the playing surface.

The organizers are expected to make a ruling on the game after receiving a report from the various parties involved. Meanwhile, the scheduling of matches in the 2008 Commercial Football League is facing a few bumps, as playing fields which the organizers had gotten cleaned, are now being used by other entities for sporting events; the Vigie Playing Field being one of them.  However one thing is certain, the 2008 Commercial Football League is no longer a walk in the park for many teams.
