Saint Lucian born international Reggae artiste Taj Weekes and TOCO will join the Wave 94.5 in their walk this Sunday. The walk dubbed “Walk and Burn” which is the brainchild of the Wave family will begin at 6am at the station’s headquarters, American Drywall Building, Vide Bouteille and end at Pigeon Island.
TOCO (They Often Cry Outreach) was founded and is headed by Taj Weekes, as a New York-based non-profit charity that focuses on serving underprivileged children in the Caribbean through sports, health and enrichment programs.
The Wave 94.5 along with TOCO, will be sponsoring one hundred Saint Lucian children to be a part of Sunday’s walk.
“The idea is that we will be sensitizing these young persons about living healthy and educating them about diabetes, so that they can go back to their schools and serve as ambassadors spreading those messages,” country manager Sue Monplaisir of the Wave says.
At the end of the walk there will be a number of fitness challenges supported by Sportivo gym as well as free diabetes testing through the Saint Lucia Diabetic and Hypertension Association. TOCO will be donating 2,700 blood glucose meters, testing strips and educational material to distribute on the day of the walk and throughout the month of November.
Sunday’s “Walk and Burn” is being supported by a number of sponsors including LIME, Sportivo Gym, Renwick and Company, Sandals Resorts, Coconut Bay Beach Resort and Spa, Bascho, Subway, Blue Water and Touch Therapy.
The event which is expected to mix fun with fitness will feature music by 1 Audio Inco along the route. At the end of the walk participants will be given breakfast, water and rehydrating drinks and there will be gifts and prizes for deserving individuals at the end of the day.

Thanks for the positivity.
Funny keep the good works burning
I consider this “Leading from the front”. Lucians must appreciate and show it.
Thanks for Taj
Blessed Love to you and yours
Lyn
Why do you refer to Taj as StLucian Born? StLucian born implies that he has lived most of his life away from StLucia, which I am sure he hasn’t—- Taj Is StLucian born and bred. He is a full Lucian… and NOT just StLucian born—– Not unless he is ashamed of being Stlucian hence the reason why you refer to his place of birth as opposed to his nationality.
Big Up StLucia!

This story and what it is all about like looking out for the kids is all good…We endorse stuff like that…
This is also about a St Lucian foreignbased entertainer’s public relations strategies along with a local radio station and resorts and other business outlets. They all benifit from this, nothing is for free.
In my opinion this paper should do more stories about the local Rastas who can’t put on a smile like this. .(B) have lived their entire lives in St Lucia contributing to the local economy with their music, art & crafts and argricultural products propelled by their incredible organizational and Entrepreneural skills and their struggles to find their rightful places in the St Lucia society while holding on to their culture and heritage. The Rastas have a an organization called Iyanola Council for the Advancement Of Rastafari (ICAR Inc.) which is affilliated with the Caribbean Rastafari Organization (CRO)
This publication should take not a page but full view of the Anguillian newspaper http://www.anguillaguide.com/article/articleview/2654/1/133/ and get an education on how they cover their society and have frequent stories from the Rastafari Communities and not the way we do it out here covering only prominent political figures, German reality shows, fashion models and other celebrity status seekers.
In actually, the term ‘St. Lucian born’ is correct as Taj has lived out of St. Lucia longer than he lived in St. Lucia. Let’s focus on the positive influence that he is and all he’s done, rather on trivial statements made by the media.
Taj, on behalf of all St. Lucians, at home and abroad - we thank you!
Good work Funny… keep it up… anything positive that will help to eliminate youth violence
