South Carolina Sophomore Jeannelle Scheper from the Gamecock women’s track and field team has, been named AG South Athlete of the Week.
Scheper opened her 2012 track & field season in record form with her win in the high jump, at the recent Virginia Tech Invitational, that catapulted her to the top of the South Carolina all-time record books with a mark of 5?11 (1.82m).
The personal best mark for Scheper breaks Olympian Chelsea Hammond’s eight-year old indoor mark of 5-10. Her mark falls just three centimetres short of an NCAA Championship automatic qualifying mark and only four centimetres short of the Saint Lucia National Junior Record (1.86m).
Scheper ranks fourth in the NCAA and is the only sophomore in the country to clear over 1.80 meters so far this season.

Uhmmm I don’t mean to sound rude, but who is this Shcheper of whom you speak? It might have been nice to provide readers with some background that links her back to St. Lucia, us Looshans, so we can at least be able to identify with the story. You clearly seem to be alluding to the view that readers are expected to either know or feel kinship to this awesome athlete, but you provide no such kindling with which to ignite this kinship pride – except to compare her recent record with out own national record. So again I ask excitedly, who is this talented young woman.
