Castries, February 9, 2012 — The Water and Sewerage Company, Inc (WASCO) has been forced to shut down the water supply to the north today, Thursday, February 9, 2012. This unscheduled shutdown is to undertake major emergency repairs to the 24-inch raw water main at Durandeau in Millet.
Currently, crews are excavating to unearth the broken main to determine the nature and extent of the damage. As a result, the water supply to the north of the island has been shut off pending the completion of repair work. Crews will work throughout the night to ensure that the damage is repaired in the shortest possible time.
Residents of The Morne to Sarrot including Bexon, Marc, Cul De Sac, La Croix Maingot, Ti Colon, Marigot, Roseau to Millet. Castries City, Entrepot, Marchand, Lastic Hill, Waterworks Road, Ravine Chabot, Bocage, Morne Du Don, Carellie, Ti Rocher, Forestierre, La Pansee, Sans Souci, Vigie, La Clery, Vide Bouteille, Choc, Union through to Grand Riviere, Marisule, Bois D’ Orange, Monchy, Rodney Bay, Reduit, Rodney Heights, Gros Islet Town and Cap Estate have been affected by the shutdown.
The supply will be restored after work is completed. However, all customers will not receive a supply immediately after the system is reopened. Residents at the extreme ends of the network and at high elevations will receive a water supply within 24-48 hours of the system being reopened.
WASCO regrets the inconvenience to our customers.

Too many people living in the Northern zone of St. Lucia. WASCO has to supply so much water to hotels and so many people. It seems a price hike might be needed to upgrade the WASCO hardware in order to be more efficient in keeping that dry part of the island, wet.
WHAT DOES BOTOX SUGGEST THEY DO WITH THESE PEOPLE?!! NO SERIOUSLY – BOTOX IS CORRECT MORE INVESTMENT IS NEEDED IN ORDER TO UPGRADE AND DELIVER A SERVICE THAT CUSTOMERS REGARDLESS OF THE NUMBERS DESERVE. INSTEAD OF PASSING ON THESE COSTINGS TO THE LOCAL COMMUNITIES WASCO SERVES – MAYBE THE HOTELS THAT ENJOY THE PREMIUM SERVICES ON OUR ISLAND SHOULD BE REQUIRED TO HELP SHOULDER SOME OF THE COSTINGS.
Demand for water in the norht is greater than the supply, becuuse the previous govermnents did not manage and plan for the future growth, associated with tourism in the north. My biggest concern, is that some people have huge water tanks at home and they seem to be ok. But the people that do not have the tank is being deprived. The same old inequality. st lucia have so much rain these days and all that water goes to waste, we can tap into some of that rain water and use it in meaningful and cost effective ways. st lucia can look into using the purified sea water. Farmers will have to construct ponds(The Ma), like the old days. We can collect roof water in household tank to feed our toilet.
Botox people are more likely to live where they can seek employment. Are you surggesting the people in the north of the island should move down south
Topmun,
St. Lucia is a tiny island, for one thing, why are the tourist boats not using the Soufriere bay like they did in the old days? There is a reason why all business is in the north, it is called urbanborbolization, the growth of urbanization due to borbolist elements. The north has the highest density of borbol activity.
WHY WONT WE BRING IN THE SEA WATER IN HOMES FOR FLUSHING TOILETS AND WASHING DISHES.ALL THE HOTELS IN THE NORTH SHOULD INVEST TO MODIFY THE SEA WATER IN DRINKIN WATER,,,
THE SEA IS ONLY A STONE THROW AWAY..
come on slp..check out the chines and american, for help…
