Once again the JQ Charles Group in association with the St Lucia Cycling Association and Lucozade, presented the JQ Charles Independence Day Cycling Championships on Friday.

The Castries Market was Ground Zero for this annual event, which had competitors following a route around the city circuit. In spite of the intermittent rainfall on the day, BMX, mountain bikers and road bikers were well represented in a stream of different races in various age categories.

Clubs such as the La Clery based Excellers Cycling Club, Project Breakaway, Dame Pearlette Louisy and the St Mary’s College Cycling Club were distinctively present with their team colors. Elite cyclists such as 2012 Junior Cycling National Champion, Gillan Moses dominated his categories on the day. The 2011 Senior Cycling National Champion, Kurt Maraj was keenly challenged by his twin brother, Kirk Maraj, with the two taking it to the wire on the final event of the day- The Match Sprint race. In order of finish are the final results beginning with the male events. BMX age 8-12: Daniel Browne, Peter Lansiquot, Quint Sonson.

BMX 13-15: Dave Charlery, Hamadi Moncherry, Malcolm Fortune. BMX 16-18: Dave Charlery, Trevor Ishmael, Dekeem Chasson. Open Category: Trevor Ishmael, Dave Charlery, Francis JnPierre. Mountain bike 8-12: Shernel Theophile, Richard Poleon, Jordon John. 13-15: Dequan Fostin, Kofi Cherry, Rolando Wilson. Open: Headley Anthony, Zannick Lawrenson, Daniel Jn Charles. Road bike Junior: GillanMoses, Andrew Norbert, Dave Charlery. Open: Kurt Maraj, Kirk Maraj, Jordan Richard. Match sprint: Kirk Maraj, Kurt Maraj, Gillan Moses. Female Results: Mountain bike 13-15: Olivia Descartes, Tessa JnBaptiste. Road bike Open: Olivia Descartes, Merlin Dupal, Tamisha St Brice. Mountain bike open: Tamisha St Brice. The St Lucia Athletics Association also took part in this event with relay races throughout the day.
