Determination has a new face in Tara Edward

Is it Déjà vu or have we seen her somewhere before? Chances are its not déjà vu and you may have seen her on a flight or two. Aspiring model Tara Edward was recently featured in regional carrier LIAT’s in-flight magazine.

While speaking to Tara it’s clear that this 24-year-old is strictly goal oriented. The Marisule native knows exactly how important it is to always have a backup plan yet she’s determined to see everything through regardless of any obstacles she may encounter.

“I’m currently a student in an A.B.E. business programme. In five years I see myself getting my degree and forming an image consultancy agency that helps others market themselves,” Tara says with the sort of confidence so many people are afraid to speak with in this economic climate. She believes that perseverance is the key to achieving goals.

One of her favourite things to do when she’s out of the classroom is to read blogs. In her own blog, ‘Marty’s World’ she shares beauty guidelines about skin and makeup. After looking up ‘Marty’s World’, I found it easy to follow and fun to read. With time Tara may be able to secure several loyal readers.

As cliché as the question has become, I still wanted to know why this contestant decided to compete in the Miss St Lucia World pageant on November 3.

“I’ve always wanted to do it. I’ve been watching the big pageants on television since I was five. I would love the opportunity to represent my island,” says Tara who has already competed in the Miss Earth St Lucia pageant (2007) and the St Lucia Carnival Queen Pageant (2011).

Pageantry is a stressful business and without the support of family and friends contestants can quickly become discouraged. The STAR wanted to know about her relationship with her support system. Tara laughed as she said, “I like my own space. My family is fun to be around and we are all close, but at times such an incredible family can be a bit overwhelming.”

“Do all the girls get along?” This reporter questioned. Tara remained surprisingly unflustered as she painted a portrait of a group of ladies who have become like family.

“They are all beautiful and different,” she says of her fellow contestants. “Though there may be minor misunderstandings, there are always good compromises.” Will her goal of securing a crown be achieved?
