Digicel, the Bigger Better Network originally created a scholarship fund for St Lucian Secondary students and later introduced a mentoring program dubbed “Big Brother Big sister”.   Since the inception of this initiative, to date Digicel has contributed thousands of dollars in scholarship funding. On Wednesday August 24th, Digicel organized a fun and educational workshop for this year’s scholarship recipients at the Pigeon Island Landmark.
Digicel’s Big Brother, Big Sister mentoring programme continues for the third consecutive school year as the students receiving this funds are now moving into their third form.  Thirty students from their first form have been seen as an extended family to the Bigger Better Network.  Digicel has been there step by step providing annual financial support for their academic school years to assist parents and guardians in purchasing books, uniforms and other educational items.
As part of the programme this year Digicel decided to facilitate a workshop entitled  “Digicel’s Youth empowered to be different.”   The students were engaged in educational activities that would help them manage themselves more effectively, work efficiently as a member of a team, increase value of self and their national heritage and evaluate reason & exercise thought in their daily lives.  This significant contribution is in keeping with our continued efforts to assist the youth as we recognize their value to the future of S. Lucia
According to Digicel’s General Manager OECS Geraldine Pitt, “Digicel is committed to supporting this important educational sponsorship which gives students a fair opportunity to be educated. This workshop will help empower and equip these students to reach their pinnacle and always strive for the best.”
Digicel’s Big Brother, Big Sister initiative is the first of its kind and Digicel welcomes every opportunity to assist our youths in their journey to become successful citizens of St. Lucia. The youth are our most valuable resource and to them Digicel says, “To the youth of St Lucia we say . . . You Matter to us!
