Digicel continued its journey of assisting various organizations through its Community Involvement Month. Many organizations have benefited from this initiative with the most recent donation of food and medical supplies to the Cornerstone Humanitarian Society.

Digicel has realized that homelessness can affect persons of all ages and backgrounds. In St Lucia destitution is a social issue that plagues our society and Digicel is eager to help curb the problem. Cornerstone Humanitarian Society has bridged the gap of addressing the immediate needs as best as it can for many unfortunate people in the city of Castries, by providing food, minimal medical care and shelter.

Established in November 1998, Cornerstone has undertaken to alleviate the problems of homelessness and vagrancy in the City of Castries. By setting up an accessible night shelter for both men and women they also provide bathing and laundry facilities, a bed for the night, an evening meal and breakfast each day. The men and women also have the use of a recreational area with television, radio and a library. Cornerstone has the support of three care attendants and a medical assistant.

With the provision of spiritual, emotional and physical support they hope to inspire and encourage each guest towards regaining a feeling of self-worth and purpose. Cornestone recognizes that their guests come to the shelter voluntarily, so they are free to stay or go.

The operation of Cornerstone continues to rely heavily on donation and outside financial help to assist with utility bill payments. As part of Community Involvement Month, Digicel lent a helping hand, to ease their burden.

In receiving the donation from Digicel Brathwaite commented: “This bounty of items came at the opportune time for us. Words cannot express how overjoyed I am that Digicel stepped in and surprised us. Thank you Digicel! Cornerstone will be eternally grateful your Digicel team.”

“As an organization Digicel considers its self part of the community, and giving assistance to that community is important,” commented Kerchelle Jn Charles Marketing Manager of Digicel. “Helping the organizations that are trying to eliminate this social problem of homelessness and vagrancy is a part of Digicel’s continued dedication and commitment to the nation.”
