Digicel Triathlon 22nd November 2014

The SLTB is again lending logistical and other technical support to the staging of the second annual Digicel Tri St. Lucia Triathlon to be held here on Saturday the 22nd November 2014.

Tri St Lucia 2014 will be the culmination of a week-long festival of fun activities hosted at Rodney Bay in the North-west of the Island.

Events including a Wednesday – 5km beach fun run at 5pm, Thursday 8am- Aquathlon (swim 500m and run 3km and on Friday 8am – 2km ocean swim, Designed with all ages and fitness levels in mind, these activities will provide holidaymakers, and locals, with a taste of the overall triathlon event, offering families, couples and single people the opportunity to take part.

With four separate competitive distances available, including relays, there is something for everyone. The course includes a swim in the beautiful clear waters of Rodney Bay, a tough hilly volcanic bike ride to cotton Bay and finally, a flat run to Pigeon Island and back,  Event distances include:

keeping the Pirate theme from last year:
The Dagger: 200m swim, 6.6km bike, 2.5km run
The Pistol: 750m swim, 13.2km bike, 5km run
The Cutlass: 1500m swim, 26.4km bike, 10km run
*The Musket: 2250m swim, 39.6km bike, 15km run.

*(Extra longer event added this year)

There will also be Relay teams covering the same distances. (Relay teams can be 2 or 3 people doing any of the disciplines)

Older children (8- 15) can still take part doing the aquathlon (swim/ run) over 200m swim and 800m run.

Last year we were very pleased with the numbers (115) this year we are hoping for over 200. We have an all-female triathlon club coming down from New York bringing 20 women to race.

Special guests this year include Sharron Davies and Steve Cram. Both Olympic medal winners and world champions.
They will be with us for the whole week and supporting all the athletes taking part.

We are hoping they will be invited to go into some local schools and do some media work to help promote sport and fitness on the island.

John Lunt event director says, “ I’m delighted that we have been invited back to your beautiful island to stage a truly iconic triathlon. After last year’s success we look forward to being a major event in the St Lucian calendar”.

Daley Thompson event ambassador states, “once again, I look forward to seeing some great performances at the triathlon, seeing the children race last years was a highlight for me”.

Leslie Collymore  Head of Marketing for Digicel  says,“ Digicel is proud to be title sponsor of the St Lucia International Triathlon, it’s great  to see this dynamic sport come to the Caribbean; and we understand and appreciate the significant socio economic value of the event for St Lucia and  eagerly look forward to supporting the event; following on from last year’s success”.

Up to date race details and entry process is on the event website:

As a build-up to the event, the Tri St. Lucia Triathlon was launched on September 17th at 11am at the Landings Resort  Rodney Bay.
