Digicel Walks for the Cure

As a socially conscious corporate citizen, Digicel on Sunday joined with FirstCaribbean International Bank in the fight against cancer in hosting the fourth annual ‘Walk for the Cure.’ The walk is organized to help raise funds for the care and support of those affected by cancer across the Caribbean. However, aid raised domestically goes towards the St. Lucia Cancer Society and Faces of Cancer.

With a staggering increase in the number of cases of cancer diagnosed annually, Digicel joined the fight to help promote cancer awareness and to contribute to reducing the stigma attached to persons affected with the disease.

Digicel came out strong in support of the Walk for the Cure activity last weekend.
Digicel came out strong in support of the Walk for the Cure activity last weekend.

The walk, which coincided with the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation Run for the Cure, saw hundreds of participants setting off from Rodney Bay and following a route through Monchy before finishing at Pigeon Island.

A symbolic moment of balloon releases was held as part of the activities to culminate the walk. Sponsors, FCIB staff and walkers alike, released a series of purple and pink balloons to honour those who have lost their lives in the fight and to those who continue to battle so courageously.

Digicel’s Country Manager, Siobhan James-Alexander, who was among the hundreds who walked for the cure commented, “At Digicel we understand the importance of being part of this fight. We all, in one way or another, have been affected directly or indirectly by this disease. The funds raised through this venture can truly help save a life; help a mother live longer to experience life with her kids, a father continue to be a source of security to his family; a child can get to truly blossom and live a fulfilled life and have an extraordinary story to tell of being victorious in this fight. Therefore, Digicel will continue to support such ventures; we will continue to support this fight and to help save lives.”

Digicel encourages all those in the fight against cancer to continue to maintain a spirit of courage and resiliency, and pleads to more St. Lucians to join in the fight.
