Eleven secondary and tertiary level students have been recent recipients of CIBC FirstCaribbean’s Bursary Awards. The Bursary Awards is an annual initiative of CIBC FirstCaribbean with the aim of facilitating parents and students with purchasing school supplies for the new school year.

As with the previous year, assistance was sought from the St. Lucia Social Development Fund (SSDF) in identifying students throughout the island, who performed well academically and who would benefit greatly from the assistance of CIBC FirstCaribbean.

Soraya Warner-Gustave, CIBC FirstCaribbean’s Senior Corporate Manager noted during the presentation ceremony, “Partnering with SSDF in this way has helped us realize one of the core goals of CIBC FirstCaribbean’s corporate social responsibility programme – enriching the lives of the communities where we do business; at the same time impacting the life chances of our youth who have a dream, and the zeal and aptitude to go after it, but who may also need people around them to encourage and support them materially in the pursuit of this dream. The SSDF is imminently qualified to partner with CIBC FirstCaribbean in this effort, because transforming lives is at the core of their organisational mandate.”

Students from Soufriere Comprehensive Secondary School, Bocage Secondary School, Gros Islet Secondary School, St. Joseph’s Convent Secondary School, Ciceron Secondary School, Clendon Mason Memorial Secondary School, Castries Comprehensive Secondary School and Sir Arthur Lewis Community College were in receipt of funds that totaled $11,000.00 EC.

Over the years CIBC FirstCaribbean has been a strong supporter of education and youth development and has donated generously towards educational pursuits in St. Lucia. Mrs. Warner-Gustave noted, “The CIBC FirstCaribbean family is heartened to know that our contribution will ensure that these students are well-equipped throughout the year. We continue to make a positive impact not only through this bursary award but also through our upcoming annual Adopt-a-Cause campaign that has a strong focus on supporting youth and youth-related programmes.”
