Excellers competed in Martinique

The Excellers Cycling club participated in an under -15 mountain bike race in Martinique last Saturday. Eleven cyclists, 10 males and one female accompanied by three managers represented the club.
The race is the Seventh edition Grand prix of the Velo Cub de Petit Bourg.
The Cyclist who participated were Josiah Murrell , Calixte Williams, Rolando Wilson, Antonio St Rose, Kevin Jean, Richard Poleon, Sherniel Theophile, Jeannot Michel Walters, Janick Paul, Dequan Faustin and Ashley Volney. It was a first time encounter for club cyclists and exposed them to competition at the regional level.
Following are the results of the Excellers club 11 member team. Seven to eight boys: Jeannot-Michel-Walters -24th out of 75 riders;
Nine to 10 boys: Sherniel Theophile – 22nd and Richard Poleon-26th out of 80 riders. Eleven to 12 boys: Josiah Murrel-19th and Janick Paul-74th out of 75 riders. Thirteen to 14 boys: Rolando Wilson-29th, Dequan Faustin-40th and Calixte Williams-55th place out of 85 riders. Fifteen to16 boys: Kevin Jean-33rd and Antonio St-Rose 40th out of 75 riders.
Special mention to St Lucia’s lone female cyclist Ashley Volney. She placed fourth out of 15 riders in the 25 years and over ladies division.
Excellers Cycling club are very proud of the performance of the cyclists and look for improvement in the near future. It was also a great experience for the aspiring cyclists who are eager to make this country proud.
An executive member said: “It was a real eye opening experience for our cyclists.
As we all know, cycling is a big and very competitive sport in Martinique and the level is very high, but we stood up to the challenge.”
The Excellers Cycling club hope to make this an annual encounter, in
order to give athletes
the opportunity to improve on their performance.
The club thanked the St Lucia Cycling Association for their assistance and look
forward to working with them for the development of the sport. Ashley Volney (extreme right) placed fourth in the ladies division.
