Junior Pan champs celebrate!

Junior Panorama was first introduced by the CDF in 2004 with five bands participating. Over the years, CDF has provided opportunities for training young people in the art form from various communities including Laborie, Vieux Fort, Micoud, Babonneau, Castries, and other areas.

Following a one year sponsored project with UNESCO, hundreds of young people between the ages of seven to twenty benefited from the introduction of pan playing.

The prize giving ceremony for Junior Panorama Bands and Junior Arrangers will be held on Wednesday, May 22 at the CDF’s conference room in Barnard Hill, Castries from 10am. The ceremony  will award the winning bands and recognize the Junior Pan Arrangers at the recently concluded Junior Panorama 2013.

The 2013 Junior Panorama held on Sunday, 28 April on the grounds of the National Cultural Center saw Caribbean Metals Pantime Steel Orchestra led by Cecil Tortee Philgence capturing the top prize with a thrilling rendition of the tune “Land of Wine” by Teddyson John as arranged by Jesse Nurse. Second place went to the Jen Moun Lime Diamond Steel led by Garvin Niles, also playing the test tune “Land of Wine” by Teddyson John. In third place was Laborie Steel Orchestra, led by Quill Joseph-Barthelemy, playing the tune “Mosquito” by Ricky-T.

The event, which was produced by the Cultural Development Foundation, featured the musical talents of seven bands from around the island including two new bands with the participation of approximately two hundred and fifty young persons between the ages of six and twenty years.
