In March, Alliance Francaise Celebrates Poetry and Francophonie

[dropcap]C[/dropcap]astries, Saint Lucia – March 10, 2017 – ‘Poetry and Francophonie’ is the theme for March 2017 at the Alliance Francaise. As the organization enters the third month of the year, with each month having a theme, March will be very interesting and exciting.

Le Printemps des Poètes (The Spring of the Poets) is an annual Francophone event in France, which was launched in March 1999, the brainchild of Emmanuel Hoog and former Cultural Minister Jack Lang. This event unites multiple practitioners of Poetry from France and abroad, and encourages and celebrates Poetry in diverse forms of expression.

Alliance Francaise seeks to emulate this event in Saint Lucia with various activities that will be staged at the Pyramid in Pointe Seraphine. The activities will promote various forms of poetry through performance, education and discussion.

To achieve this, Alliance Francaise plans to dedicate (3) three events which will be very engaging for persons interested in Poetry island wide.

Saturday, March 18, 4:00 pm – 5:00 pmPanel Poetry Discussion –Is poetry a way of making a statement? – Free Admission

Saturday, April 1st, 4:00 pm – 3:00 pmFrench Karaoke Contest – A fun occasion for persons to make use of their French!! All songs will be sang in French.

La Journée Internationale de la Francophonie (International Francophonie Day) is observed within the International Organization of The Francophonie member states, annually on March 20th, to celebrate the French language and Francophonie culture. There are over 275 million French Language speakers in the world.

For this occasion, Alliance Francaise of Saint Lucia will organize a series of events under the Francophonie theme, for adults and young people, from Monday March 20 to Saturday April 1, 2017.

The highlights of these events will be on Saturday, March 18, 8:00 pm The Musical and story telling show of Fred Pellerin “A Village in 3 Dices”– at the National Cultural Center it comes with Free Admission. This production, is to celebrate the Francophonie Day and the commemoration of Canada’s 150th Anniversary.

On Monday, March 20, 7:00 pmthe Musical performance of Emmelyne Octavie “Battements de mots” (“Beats of words”) – at the National Cultural Center – Entrance fee: EC$25.00 – Free Admission for Alliance Francaise members.

The aforementioned events link the two subjects Poetry and Francophonie and the public is encouraged to participate in the interesting program of Activities organized for March 2017.
