Morne Du Don Home Firebombed

Less than a week into 2015 and residents of Bois Patat/Morne Du Don say that there does not seem to be any urgency by the government or law enforcement agencies in dealing with the crime situation in their community. Last year saw the area riddled with gun violence some resulting in death. There were also a number of robberies as well. Sources have told the STAR that most of the incidents appear to be gang related, as the word on the ground is that there is an ongoing feud for turf in the vicinity. It also involves gang members from the nearby Wilton’s Yard, popularly known as the Graveyard, sources say.

On December 3, 2014 a shooting incident in Bois Patat left one man hospitalized while two vehicles were burnt in an incident of suspected arson the same day. Leading up to Christmas, residents of Morn Du Don/Bois Patat say that they were “terrorized” by bandits who robbed homes and dwelling places leaving many fearful for their lives.

Then on January 2, 2015 there were reports of a home being firebombed in Morn Du Don. Police have confirmed that at about 12:10 a.m. on Friday 2nd January, some unknown person(s) attempted to burn the dwelling house of Sherline Williams of Morn Du Don, Castries.

According to a police press statement, a lit kerosene bottle was thrown into Williams’s bedroom causing damage to louver blades and curtains.

Williams was able to extinguish the flames before any significant damage could occur.

Investigations are continuing into the matter.
