The club teams of the St. Lucia Volleyball Association (SLVA) have registered to compete in the annual volleyball national league. The league is an avenue for the players to showcase their talent and skills, for coaches to assess their players and teams, and the association to scout for emerging talent.
This year’s league will see five (5) men and women teams compete to become national champions. The league will take on its usual round robin formation with the eventual champion being the team with the best win/loss ratio. Reigning champions, Jetsetters Volleyball (Men) and Le Club Volleyball (Women) enter confident of retaining their titles. The men’s division will comprise of Jetsetters Volleyball, Le Club Volleyball, Dig Set Point Volleyball, South Stars and the Junior National Team. In the women’s division, Jetsetters Volleyball, Le Club Volleyball, Dig Set Point Volleyball A Team, Dig Set Point Volleyball A Team and the Junior National Team will compete.
The Junior National Team will comprise primarily of the youth players as SLVA seeks to make competition ready, the players who will be eligible to vie for a spot in the 2016 NORCECA Junior Continental Championships. Jetsetters will compete this year without star player Julian Bissette who has left for Greece to play at the professional level for Club Ment. Le Club Men will be without Outside Spiker Gillan Octave and the women without Middle Blocker Tyna William who are both on scholarships in the United States. Although, the clubs lose some talent with these players absent, it gives opportunity for other players to step up their game.
The league is set to start off on Sunday, September 7, 2014 at the Beausejour Indoor Practice Facility with Dig Set Point A Team vs Junior Nationals at 2 pm in the women’s division, Dig Set Point vs Junior Nationals at 4 pm and Le Club vs Jetsetters at 6 pm in the men’s division.
