he International School of St.Lucia (ISSL) has completed a strategic review to ensure the School is achieving its goal of providing its students with the necessary tools to enter the highly competitive global marketplace upon graduation.

One of the hallmarks of the school has been its ability to nurture leadership and critical thinking skills in its students.  In recognition of this success the school is to be re-launched as the International School for Leadership.

A fundraising drive has commenced to improve the quality of the existing facilities but more importantly, to eventually build its very own educational facility.

Spokesperson for a newly appointed management committee, Dr. Tanya  Destang-Beaubrun, says the school has recognized that in order to meet the needs of each individual child and to give students the ability to compete on a global level, it is necessary to constantly update facilities and equipment.

“Recent fundraising efforts have allowed us to renovate the physical premises as well as to upgrade our playpark facility for our students and expand our athletic program.

“We have also been able to update lab equipment and class materials for our students and teachers.  The ultimate end goal however, is the construction of a new school and the management committee has declared this to be a top priority.

“Until a new site is identified, however, we will continue renovating the existing premises to ensure a conducive environment for students and faculty ” Dr. Beaubrun said.

Established in 2006, The International School of St. Lucia is a private, co-educational school located in Rodney Bay offering quality education from Grade 2 to Grade 12.  Students at ISSL earn a New Brunswick High School Diploma which allows them to enter directly into colleges and universities world-wide.

It also affords St. Lucian students easier access to University scholarships and some ISSL graduates have already benefited from this.  Because the curriculum is Canadian, Canadian teachers are naturally drawn to the School but the administration is committed to hiring the best educators and facilitators from around the globe.

All teachers hired must hold a university degree as well as a degree in teacher training.  For the first time ever, the School has this year secured the commitment of Sugar Beach, Sandals Resorts and Coco Resorts to provide 5 scholarships from entry through to graduation and the School is committed to increasing these numbers each year.

ISSL is focused on high standards of academic achievement and also offers an international curriculum oriented for the digital age and prepares students for the ever-changing demands of the global workplace. The school aims to develop global citizens who are engaged and highly motivated and who are socially responsible leaders and critical thinkers.
