The ultimate carnival weekend is here and if you haven’t gotten sleep within the past couple days, it’s safe to say you probably aren’t going to get a full night’s rest until Wednesday! The events leading up to this point have been filled with excitement, and things only get more heated from this point!
Panorama will unfold at the Beausejour Cricket Ground on Friday, July 13 leading up to Outrageous Sexy in Black at Gaiety, and don’t miss Party Monarch on Saturday, July 14 from 8:30 pm at Beausejour Cricket Grounds. Calypso Monarch Finals is on Sunday, July 15 from 8pm at Beausejour Cricket Ground, Jab Jab Fete on Sunday, July 15 from 9pm at Gaiety and Red Eye from 9pm on Sunday at Indies Night Club. Don’t miss J’Ouvert from 4am on Monday, July 16 in Castries.
Bands take to the streets in the carnival pageant from 11am from the Choc roundabout to Castries on Monday, July 16 and Tuesday, July 17 from 1pm. The carnival prize giving ceremony takes place on Friday, August 17 at 8pm.
The first carnival band leaves from Caribbean Cinemas at 9am. The traffic management plan for carnival states that the bands are expected to go from the John Compton Highway, turn left onto Jeremy Street, then right onto Chisel Street. The bands will then travel along Chisel Street to its intersection with Micoud Street where they will turn right onto Micoud Street.
From there the bands travel down Micoud Street making a right turn onto Manoel Street. The bands then travel down Manoel Street and turn right onto Jeremie Street. There should be no parking on Brazil Street, Chaussee Road, Chisel Street, Micoud Street, Manoel Street, Jeremie Street, La Toc Road and Darling Road from Jn Baptiste Street to Barnard Hill.
Brazil Street will be utilized as a main access for vehicular traffic entering and exiting the city. According to the traffic plan, all efforts will be made to ensure the continuous flow of traffic along this street. In the event of an emergency Peynier Street into Mary Ann Street and Upper Chisel into Chaussee Road must be utilized to filter vehicular traffic.
Chaussee Road will be one of the main access points for vehicular traffic entering and leaving the city. La Toc Road will also be a main access for vehicular traffic entering and leaving the city. Vehicles traveling along La Toc Road will not be permitted to turn into Inner Relief Road.
Vehicles traveling northbound from Castries will utilize the Castries / Gros Islet Highway but will be restricted to left lane only. The right lane on the highway must be free from vehicular traffic at all times and must be utilized for emergency purposes.
The Castries / Gros Islet highway (from Corinth intersection) will be closed to all south bound vehicular. All vehicles heading toward the city from Gros Islet must turn left into Grand Riviere and utilize the Morne Du-don / Balata Road with the exception of vehicles exiting at Sunny Acres. Vehicles traveling into Sunny Acres must be escorted by a police outrider once they have gotten to the intersection of the Castries / Gros Islet Highway and Union. In the event of an emergency, the emergency vehicle will be permitted to utilize the highway under police escort.
The John Compton Highway will also be closed. L’anse Road will be closed from its intersection will John Compton Highway. Sans Souci Road will be closed at its intersection with John Compton Highway. Jn Baptiste Street will be closed at its intersection with reclamation grounds / Calcresent Street. Darling Road will be closed at its intersection with Trinity Church Road. Calcresent Street will be closed at its intersection with Jeremie Street. Jeremie Street will be closed at its intersection with Chaussee. Chisel Street will be closed to all vehicular traffic.
Victoria Street will be closed at its intersection with Chaussee Road. High Street will be closed at its intersection with Coral Street. St Louis Street will be closed at its intersection with Coral Street. Micoud Street will be closed to all vehicular traffic. Micoud Street at its intersection with Chaussee Road will be closed and so will Chisel Street at its intersection with Brazil Street. Coral Street will be closed to vehicular traffic at its intersection with Micoud Street!
Broglie Street will be closed to all vehicular traffic at its intersection Brazil Street. Peynier Street will be closed at its intersection with Jeremie Street. Laborie Street will be closed at its intersection with Brazil Street. Bridge Street will be closed to all vehicular traffic. Mongiraud Street will be closed at its intersection with Micoud Street. Manoel Street will be closed at its intersection with Brazil Street. Inner Relief Road will be utilized as a main entry and exit for Omni Buses. It will also be used as a bus hub for several bus stands.
Vehicles traveling from the Morne into the city will travel along the Morne Road and turn right onto Brazil Street. Vehicles traveling from La Toc Road will turn left onto lower Morne road and right onto Brazil Street. Buses traveling from La Toc will be directed to Inner Relief Road. Southbound vehicles on Brazil Street will continue along Brazil Street and then turn left onto Bridge Street or right into La Toc Road.
Northbound vehicles from Castries will continue along with Castries / Gros Islet Highway adhering to the right lane restrictions. La Pansee Road will be one way for vehicles exiting the city. Morne Du-don Road will be made one way for vehicles entering the city.
Failure to follow traffic guidelines could result in you being charged or your vehicle being towed!
