Already faced with increases in the prices of most basic items, Saint Lucians will now have to pay more for bread. In the last 12 months citizens have not only had to face a 15% VAT but saw a sharp increase in water rates as well as sugar, flour, margarine, sardines and a number of food items have all gone up. On Tuesday via a press release the bakers association indicated that as of next week, the price of bread will go up.
According to the association as of Monday 11th August, 2014 the price of decontrolled white bread and whole wheat bread will be increased.
The new prices are as follows:
All packets of white rolls, hamburgers, hotdogs, butter bread, butter loaves and french will move from $2.00 per packet to $2.50 per packet.
All packets of whole wheat rolls, loaves, and sandwich will move from $2.50 per packet to $2.75 per packet.
The statement from the association also noted; “in recent times we have had to absorb the price increases of flour, sugar, water, electricity, value added tax (vat) on salt, yeast, butter, margarine, shortening, packaging, as well as the increases in the wholesale price of gas and diesel.
This increase in the price of bread has become necessary in an effort to try to mitigate the effects of the almost 25% increase in some of the above mentioned items and other indirect costs associated with the production of bread and the operations of our businesses.”

Saint Lucia’s problems started before you or I were even born and will continue until the people of the nation stand united against the ingrained corruption, immorality and spiritual bankruptcy that has overtaken our land. And it is going to get worst. The USA and Europe have been covering up the systemic failures in their banking and political systems from the crash in 2008. Italy just went into a triple dip recession and the USA is covering up the 55 million on food stamps and the hamburger flipping jobs by the Fed buying government bonds and the banks operating with 0% borrowed money.
