Once again the St Lucia Amateur Swimming Association (SLASA) had the Rodney Heights Aquatic Center abuzz with excitement, as the 2014 Long Axis Swim Meet took place on Sunday.

Run over three hours from 1:30 pm to 4:30 pm, the stands were full with the parents and supporters encouraging the swimmers to perform their best, for the first swim meet in the calendar year. This developmental meet was a showcase for the many club swimmers and national selectees to flash their talent for family and friends.

With over 175 swimmers from all the local swim clubs, SLASA would be pleased with both the participation and execution of the meet. The long axis meets are confined to the backstroke and freestyle strokes alone.

Ethan Dyke Elliott of Sea Jays swim club probably became the youngest swimmer to establish a national record, when he set the new national standard of 10:39.25 in the 800M Free. It was an incredible performance by the 11 year old and he continues his record breaking trek.

The following swimmers set national Age Group Records: Female Eight and Under 400M Free, Jorja Mederick of Racers swim club with a time of 7:30.09; Female 18 and Over 800M Free, Vanessa Eugene of Cobras Swim Club (14:47.67); Male 11-12 800M Free, Ethan Dyke-Elliott of Sea Jays Swim Club (10:39.25).
