In keeping with the fourth object of Rotary International which reads, “the advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service,”
the Rotary Club of St Lucia continues to provide service to needy persons and communities around the island. This is possible through their many fundraising events like the annual Wine and Cheese Festival, one of Saint Lucia’s premier charity events, now in its 12th year.
Under the distinguished patronage of Dame Pearlette Louisy, Governor General of St Lucia, the Rotary Club along with sponsors puts on the extravagant and elegant evening of wine, cheese and socializing every year.
The Rotary Club has donated a percentage of profits from the annual event to the Governor General to be used toward her charities of choice.
President of the St Lucia Rotary Club Konrad Wagner is honoured by the unending support of the Governer General. He says part of the philanthropic philosophy of the Rotary Club is to donate to an eclectic group of charities. Wagner is pleased to note that the Dame shares similar values.
Dame Pearlette Louisy, who is the benefactor of many charities on the island, says proceeds will be donated to several causes dear to her heart.
The annual tradition was hosted on the grounds of the official residence of the Governor General. Rotary is an international service organization set on
providing humanitarian services to people in need. There are currently three branches of Rotary on island including the Rotary Club of St Lucia founded in 1966, Rotary Club of Gros Islet (1993) and Rotary Club St Lucia South( 1975).
