It’s been a golden year for Sportswoman of the Year Levern Spencer.

St Lucia’s World Class high jumper Levern Donaline Spencer kept her 2013 unbeaten record alive, when she won another Gold medal in the United States.

Competing last Saturday at the Auburn War Eagle Invitational in Auburn, the prolific St Lucian native defeated nine other jumpers to claim her fourth gold medal in as many competitions for this year. Spencer, who is currently ranked No.2 in the world for 2013 behind London Olympic silver medalist Brigetta Barrett of the US, started her campaign with the bar at 1.84 metres (m). After missing her first attempt at that height, cleared it on her second attempt and then passed at the height of 1.87 m, before going on to clear the next height of 1.90 m on her very first attempt to seal the victory.

She then had three unsuccessful attempts at 1.96 m which would be a world championship “A” standard qualifying mark, and her best jump for the 2013 season. This would have placed her number on the IAAF world listing for the year.

Winning the silver medal was fellow London Olympian, Doreen Amata, a Nigerian based in the US who cleared the same height as Spencer, but lost on a count back. The bronze medal was won by Maya Pressley of Auburn with a clearance of 1.84 m.

St Lucia’s reigning Sportswoman of the Year, is expected to have one more competition in the US before continuing her 2013 campaign outside of the US.
