Stage set for Digicel Northern Zone Club Championship

Following Wednesday’s semifinals final and weeks of intense competition, the Digicel Northern Zone Club Championship takes place Sunday on the Gros Islet Playing Field. In semifinal play Big Players went up against NYAH FC and VSADC squared off against Massy Stores United. The two semifinal winners play in the championship game. Preceding Sunday’s final is the Third Place Playoff between the two losing semifinalists.

In games played In the Digicel Northern Zone Club Championships over the weekend, on Saturday NYAH FC got pass LA All Stars of La Clery in a hard fought 2-1 victory in extra time.

LA ALL Stars opening the scoring through Junior St Rose in the 46 minute of play. Travis equalized for NYAH FC in the 72nd minute ending the game 1-1 in normal time.

In extra time Christopher St Catherine scored the winner in the 118th minute mark giving La Clery All Stars the victory.

In the other quarter final played at Marchand on Saturday, Big Players continued their goal fest with an 8-0 of Flames FC Sharpshooter Lincoln Phillip scored a hat-trick for Big Players with goals in the 17th, 45th and 56 minute. Richard Smith scored two goals with single markers going to The other goal scorers were Linus Augustin, Valdel Maximin and an own goal by Bertrand Alexander.

On Sunday at the Gros Islet Playing Field, the action continued with GMC United FC playing VSADC in the first encounter. VSADC won 2-1 with goals from Shaquille Joseph in the 41 minute and Decorsey Simon in the 82 minute.

GMC’s lone goal came from Tev Lawrence in the 60 minute from a well struck free kick.

In the second encounter of the evening, Massy Stores Northern United defeated Dominators FC 3-1. Goals for Massy Stores Northern United came from Danil Denis in the sixth minute, Eden Charles in the 66th minute and Elijah Louis in the 70th minute.

Dominators pulled on back in the 90 minute from Dubai Demay.

As the set date for the Blackheart 2016 Blackheart/SLFA Knockout Football Tournament draws nearer, teams were engaged in warmup encounters over the weekend. On Saturday at the La Guerre Playing Field in Babonneau, Canaries defeated Roseau Valley 1-0. A goal by Reynold Andrew in the in the 89th minute was the game winner. Warmup games continued Sunday with a doubleheader in Dennery. The first game saw Vieux Fort South defeat Vieux Fort North 3-1.

In the second game of the doubleheader, Mabouya Valley and home team Dennery tied 1-1.

In the Mabouya Valley Youth Football League, Survivals Sports Club defeated Aux Lyons United Sports Club on Saturday at the Grand Ravine Playing Field.

The action continued Sunday this time at Richfond where Chesters Sports Club defeated Monarch Sports Club 3-1 and RYO and Togetherness Youth tied 1-1.
