As part of their annual summer camp, the Dame Pearlette Louisy Primary School organized a visit to the Star Publishing Company Ltd. On July 30th 2014, a number of enthusiastic students both from the school and from other invited primary schools, were granted a tour of the publishing and print plant of the establishment.

The students, ranging from as young as 4 – 12 years of age, exhibited much curiosity as they were given a first hand experience of the process of newspaper printing, the publishing and production of books and magazines and the opportunity to see the different equipment being used.

General manager Marcia Charles accompanied the students during their tour.

“We are happy to embrace students within our premises, particularly when it comes to understanding the processes involved in producing reading material.  We want our young ones to know that there is still a place for the printed word even with the advent of tablets and laptops and technical/digital devices which are now commonplace.”

Plate maker, and tour guide/instructor for the day Kaaif Charlemagne and Operations manager Deon Guerra, answered all of the questions that the students presented.

In the end, the students had the opportunity to meet Mrs. Mae Wayne, co- owner of the company, who was delighted to share some insight with them.
