A Vieux Fort resident is the island’s latest road fatality. Information on the individual is still sketchy, but the accident occurred on Friday 29 August on New Dock Road in Vieux Fort.
Before going to press, the STAR received an update on the accident from Sergeant John of the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force Traffic Department in Vieux Fort; “The accident happened at 9:30. A motor truck collided with a pedestrian known as ‘Trini’ of Vieux Fort. He sustained severe injuries and was conveyed to the St. Jude’s Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. Investigations are continuing in this latest accident.”
This latest accident comes only four days after the previous collision which also occurred in the southern town. On Monday, August 25, 2014 Motor Omnibus registration number M 751 collided with Motor Cycle registration number PK 4795 driven by 40-year-old Police Constable 280 Allen Randy Abbott, of Grande Ravine, Dennery on the Laborie/Vieux Fort Highway.
As a result of the accident, Allen Randy Abbott and his pillion rider, 40-year-old Johanna Dominic of La Resource, Vieux Fort sustained severe injuries and were transported to St. Jude’s Hospital. Abbott was pronounced dead on arrival whereas Dominic was treated and admitted in a critical condition.
PC 280 Allen Randy Abbott was a police officer of 19 years’ service. At the time of his death, he was attached to the Special Services Unit of the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force.
