Walking Boys ran over Northern United

He scores! Super J Northern United All Stars goalkeeper Randy Poleon (R) and a defender made a valiant attempt but couldn’t stop this third goal by SV Walking Boys of Suriname.

They call themselves SV Walking Boys of Suriname, however, they didn’t walk or crawl. Like a Mack truck, they ran all over Super J Northern United All Stars in the opening game of the Caribbean Football Union Gold Cup Champion First Leg Qualifier Sunday afternoon at Mindoo Phillip Park.

SV Walking Boys left as Walking Men following a convincing 3-0 victory over Super J, who were anything but super that afternoon. The score flattered the home side. Walking Boys missed several good scoring opportunities and had shots deflect off the goal post and crossbar.

For all intense and purpose the game was over at half time. SV Walking Boys scored on a header on corner kick from the left side, then followed that up with another goal from close range just before intermission.

The visitors added another score in the second half, giving them a sizeable advantage for the March 26 return leg in Suriname.

Scoring for walking boys were R Lupson, A Paiva and M Felter.

In an interview following the game, Manager of Super J Cuthbert Elisse, gave his team a severe tongue lashing for their dismal performance.

When asked “where did it all go wrong for you today” Elisee replied: “It all went wrong in the middle which was not working. We gave up possession in the middle and once we could not control the middle, we just Suriname a highway to just dominate the football.”
After a shocking performance, Elisee pointed out that there is nothing left to do but for Super J to go back to the drawing board and work extremely hard and review their plans.
Prior to Sunday’s game between Walking Boys and Super J, the St Lucia Football Association staged a quarter- final match at 2 pm between Mabouya Valley and Vieux Fort South. Mabouya came out on top 5-1. Venus Abbott led the winning side with a hat trick with single markers going to Lucius Prospere and Anthony Matthew. Thurhane Joseph scored the lone goal for Vieux Fort.
