To date, thirty persons have been arrested and charged for breaking the curfew implemented by government. Acting Corporal Ann Joseph, Public Relations Officer of the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force, made the disclosure at a press conference today. She also provided a daily breakdown of arrests and the area in which they occurred:
March 27th: 2 persons in Gros Islet
March 30th: 1 individual in Canaries
March 31st: 3 persons in Soufriere and 4 in Castries
April 2nd: 2 persons in Anse La Raye
April 3rd: 4 persons in Anse La Raye
April 4th: 3 persons in Castries
April 9th: 10 persons within the south of the island
April 13th: 1 individual in Castries
The public is reminded that a daily curfew is still in effect from 7:00pm to 5:00am.
The curfew is included in the Emergency Powers (Disasters) (COVID 19) (Curfew)(No. 2) Order. It states: “A person who contravenes this Order commits an offence and is liable to imprisonment with or without hard labour for a term not exceeding six months, or a fine not exceeding $1000 or both, and forfeiture of goods or money in respect of which the offence has been committed.”
