I recall my one and only meeting with then Prime Minister Compton. My parents had taken the family for holidays to St.Lucia and My father’s cousin being the private secretary to Mr. Compton, arranged a private meeting. I was only 13 years old but I do remember the kind patience of an extremely busy man as he attentively listened to my yammering on about wanting to go snorkelling among other trivialities one might partake on vacation as a child. Unfortunately the current PM can’t say the same, for in Sir John’s lifetime he did not show it, and in death he proves it. Which is why the lackluster speech. Again it is all for political expediency nothing more nothing less with all this grand unveiling of the stature of a man he reviled and I believe hated. Kenny has a long way to go in learning the true measure of a man, and to understand the humility of the likes of Compton. A man who drove himself most of the time in a beat up truck and never seemed interested in the material trappings that present day Prime Ministers (who thing they are Chavez or Castro etc) seem to crave. Nice work Rick. I can’t agree more with the sentiments shared here. But there are men and there are men. Having fleshy gonards, education, even Phd’s and the lot doesn’t equate with being a man. As for your summation that if there is one thing that made Sir John a cut above the rest was his ability to separate political adversary from enemy never a truer word was said. Why else Odlum to the UN, why else Josie to Bananas, why else Hunter Francois to ombudsman and the least goes on and on and on.
