Rituals sweep Carnival prizes

The Carnival Planning & Management Agency (CPMA) and the Carnival Bands Association on Wednesday July 25 announced the results of the 2014 Parade of the Bands. The popular road march was also announced, following carnival Monday and Tuesday.

According to the CPMA and The Carnival Bands Association, sincere gratitude must be expressed to all individuals and entities who lent support toward the success of the Parade of the Bands. Special recognition was given to the Old Mas Practitioners, J’ouvert Bands and Mas bands who participated in this year’s showing.

The CPMA also wished to recognize the festival’s corporate partners for ensuring the viability of Lucian Carnival, despite the trying fiscal climate.

The winners for Carnival 2014 are: CALYPSO Monarch Wulstan “Walleigh” Alfred who also won the most Humorous Song Award.
PARTY Monarch was won by Ezra with Bacchanal Rampage and Groovy Monarch Arthur with “Numb.” National Panorama was won by Pantime from Gros Islet. JUNIOR CARNIVAL BAND of the Year was won by Just Us Kids while the SECRA GIBSON J’ouvert Band of the Year was won by Back In Time Inc.

The popular OLE MAS winner was Cuthbert Modeste portraying “Guy Two Teeth.” King of the Bands was won by Martin Dorville of the band Rituals who portrayed Revenge of Achilles while the Queen of the Bands was won by Sharon Tanner as Helen of Troy, also of Rituals.
The Roddy Walcott Section of the Year award went to St. Lucian Spirit  with  Spirit of the People and the Cuthbert Anthony best design award went to Rituals “Troy empire of desire.”

Mas on the Move award went to Just4Fun, the best theme portrayal Rituals and individual of the year was Sharon Tanner of Rituals.

Rituals also won the coveted Euralis Bouty Band of the Year title while the popular Road March for 2014 was won by J Mouse with “Hurt It.”
