7 men slapped with charges following separate police operations in Vieux Fort and Monchy

The Royal Saint Lucia Police Force (RSLPF) on Monday issued the following statement to provide details on two recent police operations in Vieux Fort and Monchy:

Vieux Fort

Officers attached to the Criminal Investigations Department in Vieux Fort preferred a total of sixty-eight (68) charges against several males, following an operation conducted between 2:00 a.m. and 8:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 12, 2021 on Martin Luther King Street, Vieux Fort. During the operation, a total of five (5) firearms and over one hundred (100) rounds of live ammunition were recovered.

Irkey Leonce Bernard, Marlon Preudhomme, Arenato Soumere, Dante Jn Baptiste, Shaquille Joseph and Dahved Augustin all of Martin Luther King Street, Vieux Fort were charged for the offences of Unlawful Possession of Firearm and Possession of Ammunition. Dante Jn Baptiste and Marlon Preudhomme were also charged for the offences of Possession of a Controlled Drug to wit; “Cannabis” and Possession of Controlled Drugs to wit; “Cannabis” with the Intention to Supply.

The defendants were remanded in custody in relation to the charges of Possession of Firearm and Ammunition, to reappear before the Second District Court on Tuesday, June 8, 2021.

Officers attached to the Gros Islet Police Station, executed a Warrant to Search for Property upon a residence at Monchy, Gros Islet, on Saturday, May 15, 2021, which resulted in the recovery of a Taurus 9mm Pistol and a magazine containing twelve (12) rounds of 9mm ammunition.

Following the discovery, officers arrested the home owner, who has since been charged for the offences of Unlawful Possession of Firearm and Unlawful Possession of Ammunition.

The defendant, Prince Nelson, a forty three year old resident of La Bourne, Monchy, was escorted before the First District Court, today, Monday, May 17, 2021, where he pleaded guilty to both charges. He was granted bail in the sum of $15,000.00 cash or suitable surety and will reappear before the court on Monday, May 31, 2021 for sentencing.
