After a weekend of the stars with the All Star Weekend ending on Sunday May 20, the St Lucia Basketball Federation now seeks to close-off its Rooster Select National Men’s Tournament with its semi-final draw Sunday at the Beausejour Indoor Facility.
An exciting and entertaining display of talent, skill and overall fun filled weekend was capped off with the All Star Game on Sunday in front of a descent crowd who definitely left the facility satisfied with the performances put out by the All Stars of Group A and Group B. Group B All Stars led by Keegan Preville, the MVP of the All Star Game, were the victorious team on the night.
Saturday’s results were as follows: US Polo Skills Challenge – Won by Nigel Francis (Courts Jets);
LIME Long Distance Three Point Shoot Out – Won by Charles Alexander (Canaries Moon River Champs);
Rooster Slam Dunk – Won by Keegan Preville (Courts Jets).
Also on Sunday, in a collaborated effort with the St Lucia Netball Association, the Netballers edged out the Lady Basketballers in an entertaining and close fought game. The skills demonstrated by both teams, shows clearly that female basketball in St Lucia is promising.
The Veterans also laced up their sneakers for one more game with a North vs South veterans matchup. Several awards were handed on the night to our players who have paved the way for the sport locally. Among some of the awardees was Ishin Mathurin. He received an award for being the Oldest Veteran. Arthur St Juste was recognized with a Lifetime Achievement award for basketball.
The evening was capped off with entertaining performances by SAM (Soldiers Around Me), Former groovy monarch Alpha and Superman HD.
With the All Star Weekend out of the way, the focus is back on the Rooster Select National Men’s semi-final draw. There is a doubleheader Sunday beginning at 6:00 pm at the Beausejour Indoor Facility. In the first game Gardens go up against Canaries and at 8:00pm Courts Jets take on VBCC Warlords.
Both games are expected to be very competitive and entertaining, with each team looking to book their place in the finals set for June 3. Gardens will be looking to avenge a loss to Canaries in the regular season. Courts Jets look to avenge a one point loss in the dying seconds to VBCC who are so far are undefeated in the tournament.
There is a lot at stake this weekend for each team. Expect them to lay it all on the line to be this year’s National Champions.
