Augier and UT tops FLA State swim meet

Jordan Augier of the University of Tampa.

Jordan Augier, Saint Lucia’s 2013 Swimmer of the Year, outpaced his US counterparts and competitors to make record breaking times at the Sunshine State Swimming Conference held February 19-22, 2014 in Orlando, Florida.

With an impressive record of wins spanning several years of local, regional and international competition, Augier was snapped up by the University of Tampa swim team in 2012 when he was accepted there to study Economics.

His impressive times at the recent State’s top meet, won him first places in both the 4×100 Free A Relay, and the 4×50 Freestyle A Relay, establishing a new meet record, school record in both events, as well as becoming the top ranked relay in the nation for Division II.

Besides his wins in the three-day competition, he also placed second in the 4×50 Medley B Relay and second in the 4×100 Medley B Relay and third in the 50 Freestyle B Finals, both of which were keenly contested. At the
same meet, Augier placed seventh in 100 Backstroke A Finals and fourth in 100 Freestyle A Finals, affirming his versatility as a valued team member.

These record achievements confirm Augier’s place in the pantheon of national athletes and underlines the importance of swimming alongside other mainstream sports.  Moreover, his victories come at a time when Saint Lucia is observing its 35th Anniversary of Independence and celebrating the exceptional successes of several young nationals on the international stage.
