Twenty-six members of a St Lucian Brownie and Girl Guide Company recently toured Harrison’s Cave thanks to the generosity of the Barbados Yellow Pages, who paid the admittance fee for the Caribbean contingent to facilitate a request made by the St. Lucia Yellow Pages.

Lead Guider, Bernella Charlemagne of the 8th Gros Islet Brownie and Guide Company, was very appreciative of the assistance noting it had made the dreams of several young, enthusiastic children come true.

“The children loved the tour, they thoroughly enjoyed the fascinating images and the interesting stories shared about the history of Harrison’s Cave … In St. Lucia we constantly see advertisements for Harrison’s Cave so the entire group was excited about visiting the popular tourist attraction… we all left with happy memories to share with our families and friends in St. Lucia.”

The contingent was in Barbados for a one-week camp affectionately dubbed ‘Girls in Action’ which was designed to expose the members to other cultures and experiences. The visit to Barbados was even more special because it was the first time many of the Brownies and Guides travelled on an airplane, and it was also the first time that the group, which was formed in 2005, travelled overseas.

“We have several established local relationships with community groups, schools and organizations and we are proud to provide our support to worthy causes at home … supporting a young Caribbean group is equally as gratifying especially when we have the opportunity to share in the memories of young children who are actively involved in a creditable activity”.
