Belrose says only an “unspiritual person led by demons” could have difficulty with the PM praying and asking for forgiveness

Senator Fortuna Belrose at Wednesday’s Senate sitting declared that it is a good thing to have a leader “who fears God” and applauded Prime Minister Allen Chastanet for his recent appearance on Choice Tv’s Blood and Faith program, where he prayed for the country.

Belrose recalled that there was an attempt to derail the prime minister in 2019, when the opposition tabled a no confidence motion against him. She said that this yielded more confidence in his ability to lead the country. “Because when you got it, you got it and our leader has got it. We have to accept that there’s no one else who can perform at this time in the way that he does,” said Belrose. “It is a good thing to have a leader who fears God because the fear of God, we all know, is the beginning of wisdom. His example publicly of acknowledging the power of God as his source of strength and guidance is inspiration to all of us.”

She continued: “Only an unspiritual person, led by demons, could have difficulty with a prime minister who is taking time to pray before his people and asking for forgiveness as well. Only an unspiritual person can do that. We have to acknowledge when things are right.”

Belrose noted that the COVID-19 pandemic has impacted the government but Saint Lucia continues to stand tall under Chastanet’s stewardship. She says that government is cognizant that there are challenges, and they continue to remain confident, optimistic and flexible. “Our citizens know that now is the time for us to face the challenge and define who we are with bold decisions and we need leadership that will not cower. We need leadership that is bold and leadership that will take the decisions that are necessary in the interest of this country,” she said.
