The St Lucia Amateur Boxing Association (SLABA) received an invitation to expose it’s boxers at the Intercontinental Amateur Boxing Championships in Santiago, Chile, from August 28 to September 3, before a possible participation at the World Amateur Boxing championships in Alamaty, Kazakhstan later this year.
SLABA President, David “Shakes” Christopher is calling out for assistance for the St Lucian Boxers to get a chance to go to the next level of the sport, as his association is unable to come up with the funds needing to have the boxers in Chile and Russia.
Christopher says the boxers are all double gold medalists from the OECS and Creole Boxing championship victories for St Lucia and deserve a chance to get an opportunity to show case their talents at the highest level.
His request did not fall on deaf ears. Du Boulay’s Bottling Company Limited agents here for Crystal Clear Water and local distributors and bottlers of Coca-Cola, recently came forward to assist the SLABA. Turns out that two SLABA boxers are employed by the company-OECS gold medalist and Creole Championship silver medalist Heslie “Gargamel” Joseph and OECS and Creole Championship silver medalist Trevon “Hawkeye” Lynch.
Hopefully other companies will come on board to assist the SLABA for this terrific opportunity to compete at the Intercontinental Boxing Championships in Chile and further down the line, the World Amateur Boxing Championships in Alamaty, Kazakhstan.
