The Saint Lucia Labour Party (SLP) has endorsed another candidate for the upcoming general elections. So far the party has announced that Senator Joachim Henry, Emma Hippolyte and Wayne Girard will contest Castries South East, Soufriere and Anse La Raye/ Canaries, respectively.
The newest addition to the SLP’s slate is Alfred Prospere, a former public servant with many years of service in the Forestry Department. Prospere will be contesting the Dennery South constituency, currently represented by Edmund Estephane — who has been the MP from 2006. In a short statement today, Prospere said he was pleased that he was given the opportunity to be the endorsed candidate. “I am indeed pleased that I was chosen and I am here to ensure that I bring the change that the constituents of Dennery South deserve,” he said.
Per data from the Electoral Department, Edmund Estephane recorded 1432 votes in the 2016 general election, defeating the SLP’s Jerome Gedeon who had 1283. (Gedeon currently serves as an opposition senator. It is unclear if he will be replaced in the Senate by Prospere.)
In a statement earlier today, the prime minister said that Saint Lucians would head to the polls “very soon.” This statement follows an earlier interview in which Chastanet did not rule out the possibility of elections being held this September. Over the past week the prime minister has been visiting various communities in the country and engaging with residents.
