The United Workers Party (UWP) has completed its slate of candidates for the upcoming general election. The party announced the latest endorsement today, Wednesday. Joining the incumbent party is Bertand ‘Birch’ Johannes, who will contest Castries South. The constituency is currently represented by Dr. Ernest Hilaire of the Saint Lucia Labour Party.
In a statement issued to the media, the UWP indicated that former Castries South hopefuls senator Mary Isaac and Adrian ‘Buffalo’ Odlum opted against competing in a three-way runoff for the seat.
“The two withdrawals paved the way for the final endorsement of Bertrand ‘Birch’ Johannes at an Extraordinary National Council Meeting held on Tuesday, March 30, 2021. This endorsement now establishes a full slate of candidates for the UWP,” the party announced.
In 2016 Dr. Hilaire captured the seat over Mary Isaac by 46 votes.
