Brilliant, bold, and audacious

These are the words I would use to describe the CSA’s recent move to accept a 0-0-0 percent increase. To me, it is a move reminiscent of the great generals of history: Alexander the Great, Genghis Khan, Napoleon and the like. The move was so unexpected, so impossible to predict, so without precedent that it left opponents and observers alike sitting in the dust without a clue as to what had happened.

Over the last several weeks I had developed a level of respect for  Mary Isaac for what appeared to be her calm, her strength and her determination. She also demonstrated the unwavering focus, which allowed her to ignore all distractions and remain true to her chosen course.

On the Wednesday night however, my respect took a quantum leap of stratospheric proportions. In her quiet, steady way, Isaac spoke as if she might have been stating the time of day. There was nothing in her demeanor to indicate she was announcing a strategic move that great war-time leaders like Churchill and Eisenhower could have envied.

After my initial confusion, I began to see the light. My jaw dropped as the full import of the move began to sink in.

So brilliant was the move that Labour Party apologists are struggling desperately to come to grips with it even after the fact. One was even heard attempting to voice some sort of condemnation. How laughable! She indicated the possibility of doing research to determine whether such a move had ever been executed before.

The comments were simultaneously pathetic and hilarious. A bit of advice: the only research that is needed in this instance is on the word S-T-R-A-T-E-G-Y. Some of us need to realize when something is way out of our league and keep quiet. The Bible reminds us that “even a fool is thought to be wise when he remains quiet.”

Please note that I hold no brief for Isaac or the CSA. In fact I never even met the lady. I also have my personal views of the entire episode. However the move was brilliant and I salute Mary Isaac. Of course, I have no doubt she would strongly deny such a notion, probably saying that it was simply the wishes of the majority. Indeed!
